So Mercedes have significant race pace edge then. It helps if you can get ahead in the first lap, of course, but if not you need a decent pit stop strategy to do an overcut.
Don't you think Lewis was loosing time behind Seb in the first stint at Spa on both occasions, prior and after Seb's first stop?
Had he went for a 2 stop strategy he might have benefit from his 0.5 sec/lap superior race pace and most likely he would have won it, don't you think?

Here it seems, according to the F1. com race pace analysis, that all Merc PU teams are down on power when they are in the power limited zones, presumably they were running in lower PU modes in both FP's, which is wise to do that after FIA confirmed the use of 3rd spec. for all of the them prior to FP1...

Based on those numbers I think Mercedes (Lewis) have this wrapped up, faster race pace and better tire wear

The overcut didn't work for Lewis in Spa, but it did force Vettel in early fearing the the undercut, he then took too much out of his tires in the early laps and the rest his history.

They'll reel them in towards the end of the race like they did with Kimi last year

My bigger question is why did anyone stick a sausage kerb in a position that makes it such a great launchpad?

that will lead to the discussion of asphalt runoffs, track limits, gravel traps and enforcing the rules by the FIA.

the car ripped out the curb and by doing that got launched it looks to me...

I found that accident terrifying, particularly after recent events. I am so glad that Alex was able to walk away. I hope he is without injury.

I assume the kerb is there because they don't want people to use the tarmac run-off at full speed, making that the new track and hence making them closer to the barrier. Given it can do that to a car, it clearly isn't safe in combination with the F3 car though.

The question for me, is about if removing the gravel was the right thing to do? Now the cars can run wide off track, at full speed, as well as creating the need for these kerbs.

Damn that’s a weird crash. Second week the HALO saved a F3 driver.

Good to see that a serious crash doesn’t always mean that the driver takes extra risks, sometimes it’s just as simple as a fault in the track.

Don’t think they need to re-think the use of run offs, but more the way extra humps and bumps are secured to the track. This is kinda club race standerds, not F1. Shame on Monza and the FIA inspectors

Wasn't a large number of drivers and teams critical of those sausage curbs the FIA insisted on using for track limits, saying those were dangerous since cars got damaged regularly? The FIA's snarky response was always "just stay on track" ... whoopsie

They are always whinging about curbs. Singapore is a good example:
- cutting corner
- higher curbs
- complaining
- removing
rinse and repeat.

Large number of drivers was critical of halo, or hans, or anything really. It means little is what I mean.
