I think it's likely going to be a Merc win. If the track is wet/damp/drying at the start of the race the first corner will be entertaining. I wonder how many drivers will take to the run off.

Yeah, the track is expected to be rained upon until shortly before the start, with rain then only expected after the race again (of course), so a drying track might mean another start behind the safety car with then a standing start on wets, leading to a flurry of cars going for intermediates rather soon (or perhaps after the 1st SC of the day as on early optimistic driver spins out on intermediates?), these are conditions in which Hamilton has usually been very good, while Leclerc has little to show in that situation, and in addition, the Ferrari still seems to lose out in rainy conditions/can't use its full power advantage. Once it is dry, the Mercedes should be better on race pace anyway, so little chance for either Ferrari; maybe a Renault podium possible (ie. Ricciardo; or McLaren with Sainz?).

Oh please. It's like his "perfect" start in Austria last year...car moving while start lights still not fully out. I guess Bottas has a talent in timing things just perfect.

Bonkers situation in Q3. I wonder if there's scope to have a different format for Q3 depending on the track i.e. cars are released from the pits at intervals to make sure they are spaced out on track and can only complete a single timed lap before returning to the pits. Basically, trying to do a hot lap style qualifying but only for Q3 and only on tracks where this sort of non-sense is possible.

I guess ultimately, if they move the formula towards generating downforce from the underbody perhaps this sort of problem will go away.

When did they bring in this nonsense with the safety car? Not so long ago they started races in pooring rain normally, with a standing start.

So reading that every driver was being told how it was tight right at the start. Some even before they left the pits.

That kind of disputes the argument that they all hadn’t left it too late. I think it’s obvious that even if one of the drivers had been willing to lead off the field that not everyone would have made the flag due to tyre warm-ups and gaping.

You need to do that in all segments.
But I think it's time to move past the current format:

• Constantly allow three drivers on track (one per sector)
• Allow them four laps (with in/out laps)
• They should be let out one at a time in the order they queued up at the pit exit, when someone comes in. (should work fine with the new tires designed to work without blankets)
• Maybe keep the periodic dumping of the last few drivers.

No towing, blocking, coasting, just pushing.
