It just depends on where we qualify. On ultimate pace we may well be slightly behind both the RP and Renault. Which in turn may well play havoc on tyre life in the race.
it looks like it may well work out for us with a clear development path for the MCL35

Verstappen just did a 16.8 on Hards. So we may well have closed the gap but there is still a decent gap

Sainz did a 1.17.1 on hards in the morning session. I doubt that is the real gap though, if it is then the midfield is a lot closer to the top 3 this year.

Ah I missed the morning session due work. Then I really like what the MCL35 can do. It also very much likes the hard tyres. The gap with Perez is opening up the longer the stint goes. Was the same on the previous stint too.
I’m getting quite excited about our prospects guys!

That's the danger in getting caught up in testing times. We all do it, but we really shouldn't! The race stints are the most representative of how fast the cars could be, I think McLaren look pretty good in that regard.

Autosport, Motorsport (okey same deal) and SKY had Mclaren at 9th last year after testing
Како можеш да ги мешаш Autosport и Motorsport? Различни се. :wtf:

How can you say that Autosport and Motorsport are the same? They are different. :wtf:

I would argue this RP MCL stint comparison is the most accurate assessment we can have. They clearly both did a race sim and we definitely have the upper hand the longer the stint goes.
Good work boys

Thanks for that. Looking side by side it first appeared bigger than that! Be more eager to see stints of Renault and Racing Point for comparison.

The gap is more like 0.8 to 0.9s to the Ferrari which is what I would expect

SoyMotor seems to think McLaren used C3, C2 and C1 tires in the race sim. Times look pretty good.

Thanks! Looks very tight between McLaren and Racing Point. Sainz 3rd stint was on C1s though, not the C2s as being shown here. In which case, impressive 3rd stint for Carlos. While not especially quick, it appears more consistent moving between compounds. Solid platform to develop on through the season.

My final verdict is that we haven't shown our full speed yet. I can even say that our main rivals for 4th have shown their best while we haven't. We might have some more upgrades to bring for Melbourne. We are faster in race pace and I think we have halved the distance to the first 3.
