Williams FW43

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Also, Latifi's times and lap counts from yesterday look pretty good in relative terms.
Does that mean simply closing the gap to the midfield, or being within touch of a couple midfield teams?
Relatively, as absolutes aren't something you can extract from testing without being able to compare teams' own test results. All we can say for sure is that the FW43 was able to match the nominal fleet pace on some days ...in testing. And they haven't suffered any setbacks that cost them a day of running. But i fear all this belongs more in the team thread than the tech thread,
the four immutable forces:
static balance
dynamic balance
static imbalance
dynamic imbalance

Looks like the cooling exit is bigger on the new engine cover.
Distinctly - the exit on the older cover stays below the level of the RW beam wing all the way across its width, while the newer one protrudes above it at the highest point. Even the exits on the newer cover looked among the smallest in the field, while the FW42 always had huge cooling outlets, so it does look as though Williams has found some useful gains in cooling efficiency, even allowing for the PU being designed to run hotter than last year

An interesting perspective (from Williams's social media):

Wrong car, that is FW42 in new colors, but still a nice picture.

My bad, you're right. That would explain why the car's lines looked so different from this angle. Didn't look closely enough at it to notice the obviously different floor slats.

Didn't realise they'd re-liveried a FW42 and run it. When did they have time to do that?

They were running the FW43 in the filming day for a shakedown weren't they? Did they also have a FW42?

As you say they had a filming day right before testing as a shakedown but then between the two winter tests they had another one.

Just been reading through this, https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/will ... 0/4722395/

Interesting part when she mentioned that they outsourced some parts of the car Vs doing it all in house like the previous years. We know they have their own gearbox division and their own wind tunnel as well so I imagine all the aero is built in house as well. Maybe the tub is designed by Williams but built by someone else now?

Anyone has any ideas?

It'll be smaller components than that. The example that was used a lot last year was the pedal box.

Some years ago everyone run the big Shark fins almost at any Price. Now Williams made some effort to reduce it. Interesting.

I totally agree with your observation: just remember mercedes in 2017, they started the tests without a sharkfin, then they introduced it in the second week (of test) and continued increasing its size (remeber the evolutions brought in Spain and Singapur).
Also Ferrari are shaping their engine hood to create a bigger fin...It's hard to say why Williams and Alfa Romeo are doing the other way around.

Mclaren also did the same last year too if you remember. It was even more like this one
the four immutable forces:
static balance
dynamic balance
static imbalance
dynamic imbalance
