So as the teams start settling into the race runs, Bottas now into the 1:16s. Interesting to see Max only a couple of tenths off at this early stage, but Mercedes probably still has a lot more performance to turn up.

The cars look absolutely in their element on this track, through those high-speed bends. It's nice that we got to see this generation of cars go around a track like this, and the likes of Istanbul in the near future.

These cars look giant around here. Very narrow track. Looks awesome though

I guess Hamilton is carrying extra fuel? His pace isn't good, I'm sure he'll turn it around tomorrow.
Seems still to be hunting to find best way to drive* to preserve tyres

RedBull looking spicy. Like arrabiata.

Hamilton's biggest strength is his braking ability/sensitivity and carrying speed in to heavy braking zones. There's a lot of time to be made in braking zones and in to the apex. Mugello doesn't have any big braking zones so I think this circuit actually plays in to Bottas's hands in this regard and represents a genuine chance to take pole from Hamilton.

Pole prediction 1:15.7
Looking to be close to Barcelona like lap times. I'd say you're thereabouts. Teams usually pick up 2 seconds between the fastest FP2 time and quali. The engine modes means whoever is fast in FP3 will likely be fast for the rest of the weekend.

So far it seems there's very little difference between the hard and medium tires in terms of performance both in short and long runs. Definitely looking like a two stop race.

If we dont get overtaking i will be happy with a tense chase to the end.

Maybe the camera positions are set up for MotoGP?

We won't have a tense chase I guess. Vey flowing high speed/high downforce track combined with hot temperatures and relatively high engine modes will all in combination make it hard to chase. Bottas and later Max had heating issues even at Monza.

A graphic briefly shown on the screen had Bottas and Max on medium and Hamilton on hard. Bottas and Hamilton were the same pace, Max something like 0.1s slower than the two Mercs. All after 7 laps. I guess that was race pace running, so looks like you're right.

If those three are that close in race pace, whoever gets in to T1 will win, unless there are incidents.

Cool conversation between Vettel and his race engineer after his engine turned off.

I've lost track of which version but he is hooked up around here this weekend, a shock really as Hamilton is normally great on new circuits.
