Nah. They’ll see what they have in Russell first, with Bottas or AN other before that. Unless they can’t deliver titles, why would Mercedes want or need to spend a lot more money on Verstappen and the baggage that comes with him?

No one has the divine right to drive a Mercedes. If the cards fall his way he’ll get a drive, if they don’t then he won’t.

All this is of course assuming Hamilton actually decides to call it a day. He could be there for the next 3-4 years if he and the car are both still strong.

My only curiosity is Albon surely they might change him out for next season he's had time to settle into the Redbull and he just stays at a mediocre level and Maybe he was brought up too soon maybe they should send him to Alfa Tauri with Gasly.

RedBull needs a strong number 2 driver.
Perez and Hulk sound like strong enough driver's to join Redbull.
It's just poor Albon can't get his --- together.

Put Perez so we can see how he is matching with Max.

Perez would be a solid driver he's fast and consistent now his race pace is very solid. Manages tires well and he's amazing with feedback for car development apparently (according to the teams he's worked with) who knows. They could be saying that to be nice lol but the truth is he's great with tires.

I could see him doing a great job with Max.

I think he would be a good fit. Albon and Gasly were, well, not unknown, but unproven then.
Bringing in a driver with a couple years experience will not only give then (and us) a proper gauge of where the car is and how good max is, but will also give them a comparison to RP.

Remember too, Max has very little experience, so they may be missing something glaringly obvious to an experienced driver,or even trying to make the car do something that it either will not, or just makes the driver so uncomfortable with it it is a liability rather than a bonus.

If I recall correctly, the last experienced drivers in the team were Seb and Danny, and Seb had problems.

He has six years in the sport though. 2015 to 2020. I would say he is quite experienced when we look at the careers of past greats. Even in races too he must be at over 100 by now.

Max is a seasoned racer a couple years ago he was making little mistakes here and there and at times losing his head in situations where he was facing a thought opponent. Hes learned and grown and experience has given him more control. You can NOT say Max has very little experience. Mr. Tea. But yeah a solid driver along Max would be good for the teams coming years.

We had an enormous aero change after 2016. Hardly Fair to call that the same car.

but he still went from Formula Three to a Red Bull in Scuderia Toro Rosso, then a Red Bull in the Boss team.
He has had several years experience, but all in the same 'design' if not the same car (except pos STR (was that Ferrari?)

Not knocking him for it, but I always went to a Chinese restaurant and claimed I did not like Indian, until I tried a few different ones. ( I still dont like them but now I know why lol )

The first year at Toro Rosso (2015) was with Renault, the first races of 2016 with Toro Rosso was indeed with Ferrari (year old) units and at spain to RBR with Renault until 2019 with Honda. I am sure he would love some Spicey Merc taster! Try some Indonesian and Thai foods.

I consider six years in any sport to be highly experienced. Veteran level is six to ten years. Geezer level is 10 to 15 years. "Why doesn't this old fart retire, doesnt he have a family?" level is 16 to 20 years.

I think what Mr. Tea means is not “inexperienced” - he has had 6 years in.

But he does not have a vast knowledge/awareness. Everything he does/knows now, other than learning from simracing/competitors on track he has learnt from within the system.

For example bringing in an outside eye could help with “wait why arent you doing this?” And suddenly the whole team hust goes... “err.. we never thought of that. This has just always been how we do things.”

Seb and Dan were experienced but of the same ilk. They did not have that exposure.
