So now defensive, clever, tactical driving is not a good thing? Sometimes there are races where you just do not have the pace and you have to hold onto what you do have. As someone else said earlier (I forgot who, maybe conceptual?), you will now just get banzai moves, both dangerous and potentially detrimental to the offensive driver.
If you don't have the pace, then what? You can't win either way! So, you better stick to what you have. If you have equal win, then the point count. So, even if you can't win, you will still fight for the best you can achieve given the circumstances
Gille Villenueve's 1981 Spanish Grand Prix win where he kept 4 superior cars behind him for nearly the entire race was one of his best and most exciting to watch wins of his career. Win's deserve to be rewarded, and will encourage anyone who gets near the front to stay there and fight for it. I'm all for it being well rewarded, but surely with more points, not this horrid medals-esque system!

well, one thing is you don't have the pace. Then you know it and you can't anything batter but get as much point as possible.

The worse is the other situation when you have equal or better pace, but you decide to play it safe and not try to win. For example, because you lead the Champ. and better take the 9 points rather then risk to overtake.

This just in, the FIA are going to use the SECU to deliberately reduce the power of the cars the higher up the grid they get. It is hoped that this will lead to a closer field with more overtaking.

I agree with whoever said this is will confuse new fans!

(please note this is not an american dig) But this is going to kinda like How Bush got into power, He didnt get the most votes but he still Won. (Matter of perspective, before i get flamed)

Tonight i am going to go back and look at at what point the Champion would of been crown given if they used the new system. I bet some would of been pretty early.

Hummm i am going to stop now, the more i think about this the more angry i get

Hope you're kidding.

(I really hope I can find a way to watch some WRC races now because this is just getting out of hand. Can Bernie and Max die already?)

Might as well be, it's no more ridiculous than the rest of the bs pouring out the FIA's orifice. It's certainly the direction in which the FIA is heading. Expect reduced power, extra balast, all kinds of artificial penalties to try and stimulate the racing that their other rules and regulations have stamped out of the 'sport'.

They should have voted MM out after his sexual games.

Hell yeah! And the slimey little s**t won't retire at the end of his term despite his previous promises. I hate him more than anything right now.

Bernie Ecclestone live on a British Radio show called 5live Drive..

Says the drivers have no motivation to race any more, so they need this.. And that the guys who can't win won't care about the rules. Apart from that he towed the 'party line'.

Because sadly, they are most likely the future of Formula One.
Bernie is driven purely by profit, and in his mind, he wants a dumbed-down system. First he suggested the three medals solely. That received a very negative response from the great majority. But he still wanted it implimented. So now, after the meeting, we have a compromise. There is a form of medal system, just a Gold for Win right now. But beware that sly fox. Bernie will most likely get his way in the future, and eventually we shall see the three medal system. Somehow, somewhen, it will happen.

It's very difficult to rationalize any argument against the previous points system, we as fans witnessed in the last two years title battles that came down to the last race, and the winner decided by the very slimmest of margins. I find that hard to improve on. But then again, my perspective is one of a racing fan, solely interested by what happens on track. Bernie sees things differently, he is driven to explore new ways to make more money. And that way is to draw in more fans from new generations or locations. Make it very simple, easy to understand... dooh, even Homer Simpson could understand it.

But the changes are in place, all the teams are aware of it, and everyone is starting on an equal footing. May the best team win. And I sincerely hope, no injuries or such disasters occur.
Personally, I will accept the new system, despite my desire to hang on to the old system. But we must face changes, and deal with them.
Racing should be decided on the track, not the court room.
