The whole proposal is stupid.
I understand the logic behind it, you want to see drivers racing for wins...but why try to artificially make this happen?
People critisize Lewis Hamilton for "over racing" but then this is encourages with these new regs...which one's it gonna be? It can't be both!
NO SPORTING SEASON that I can think of (I say season as opposed to a tournament such as the Olympics, World Cup etc.) is run in this way...so to my mind F1 no longer has the right to call its yearly battle the FIA Formula One World Championship SEASON. It should now the FIA Formula One World Championship TOURNAMENT.
But all of that PALES IN COMPARISION WITH THIS:
Why bother doing a fan survey and then ignoring the fans?!
(And no ISLAMATRON the majority of the fans surveyed are not idiots - the majority are subscribers from around the world to F1racing Magazine [which helps runthe sirvey for the FIA allong with AMD], which happens to be the worlds best selling F1 mag. They should then be fairly clued up on whats going on...no casual fan subscribes to a mag like that...too much financial outlay for a casual observer.)
Basically we're constantly being told that F1 has to improve for THE FANS. So the fan survey is setup and results they disagree with are ignored. Oh well C'est La Vie...
..except it's not because of the REASON this is ignored. The reason is, is that new and/or casual observers want to see racing from start to finish (like a horse race or the 100m sprint) it allows their minds to stay interested for the duration (how many people do you know who watch the 100m final at the Olympics, now compare this to the number you know who watch the 10,000m final or the Marathon to get my point)
This means the sport is more valuable to sponsors as the target audience has increased due to this blatent "dumbing down" of the game. This in turn means the decision to to implement this new system is TOTALLY driven by MONEY. (as I'm sure the previous joke posts about SMS voting are alluding to...and if thery're not, oh well, its works out nicely!
)
And THAT, frankly, is DISGUSTING. I would mind too much if the fans had voted for this, but its clearly done for Financial Gians for those who hold the purse strings. In short the FIA has sold out.
With this, F1 has added fuel to the argument that "F1 is a business first, and a Sport last". While I accept that in all sports, money rules, (more money = more rescources, better players etc) you don't see the rules of Football, for example, changing for the financial gain of the respective Football Association.
The FIA should be embarrassed.
