Sadly, it's times like this when Mercedes's policy of trying to maximise the team result - a 1-2 - messes up the chance to actually win.

This is now Max's race to lose.

Like I said during the Spanish GP Merc messed that up too. But because they had better pace were able to still take the win. And at the end of the race Wolff lauded the strategy team but in reality they just made things harder. Mercedes strategy team hasn't been tested enough over the last 8 years and we are now seeing how poor it is

They just needed to pit Hamilton the lap after Bottas and it would have been fine

They're much faster than 1 tenth. Hamilton is always within 0.5s-1s to verstappen and bottas is able to easily stay in hamilton's drs, this means they're probably at least 0.3s faster, but more likely 0.5s.

Lewis is so close but I just think an overtake is impossible.
