Part strategy, part just not as fast.
dont forget they were stuck behind Norris and lost 10sec to Lewis
Absolutely- forgot about Norris!siskue2005 wrote: ↑27 Jun 2021, 20:42dont forget they were stuck behind Norris and lost 10sec to Lewis
In other words Adrian Newey (and his team) Strikes again. Mercedes seem a bit lost as what to do with the W12 setup wise and seem to second guess themselves when it comes to pitstops. What we have is a classic drivers title race that won't boil down to who has the best car but which driver is the most consistent during the season, with few mistakes made as possible. Lewis has been making more mistakes than he usually does, Max so far looks relaxed. I don't have a favourite between Max and Lewis, I'm just enjoying the fight between the two of them.ringo wrote: ↑27 Jun 2021, 18:39A car doesnt need to have spare races to go in the end to be dominant.
The car need only be the best car at most of the tracks and be practically untouchable. which is what we a re seeing currently with the RB16 even from winter testing.
Fast car, goes well at all tracks so far, easy to get into the right setup window, no drama. Front row qualifying everytime.
The cars are not even. If had a choice to pick one I am picking the redbull. Zero compromises with that car compared to the slouchy and diva like W12.
I did wonder if that was a very sensible thing to do at the time actually- especially in light of the other day. I can’t blame him for being excited though, because I think today was they day they realised both titles this season are theirs to lose.zibby43 wrote: ↑27 Jun 2021, 21:45Max was really lucky to avoid any kind of penalty or reprimand for this.

I'm all about driver safety, but if a driver wants to do a burnout across the line, and off the racing line, then whatever. It makes the show better.El Scorchio wrote: ↑27 Jun 2021, 21:54I did wonder if that was a very sensible thing to do at the time actually- especially in light of the other day. If they can! It could just be an inherent lack of downforce with these floor regs that they can’t claw back without running a bigger wing. Looks like checkmate at the moment!zibby43 wrote: ↑27 Jun 2021, 22:02Agree on both counts.El Scorchio wrote: ↑27 Jun 2021, 21:54I did wonder if that was a very sensible thing to do at the time actually- especially in light of the other day. Merc need to ditch the simulations and figure out a way to run their car and set it up around less rear wing.
The thing that puzzles me is that they’ve run trimmed out before this season (with Hamilton) and made it work. In Portimao, Hamilton ran less RW and had the straight line speed necessary in the race plus still kept the tires alive.El Scorchio wrote: ↑27 Jun 2021, 22:18If they can! They're running the rear wing because they can't replace the rear downforce lost to the floor changes any other way. As they aren't developing the W12 at all this year, they are basically screwed.zibby43 wrote: ↑27 Jun 2021, 22:02Agree on both counts.El Scorchio wrote: ↑27 Jun 2021, 21:54I did wonder if that was a very sensible thing to do at the time actually- especially in light of the other day. It’s a good point. Of course RBR have made improvements since then as well, though. My feeling as well is they are a bit too ‘by the numbers’ sometimes at MB (with pit strategy as well) and maybe need to trust their own eyes and instincts a little more.zibby43 wrote: ↑27 Jun 2021, 22:25The thing that puzzles me is that they’ve run trimmed out before this season (with Hamilton) and made it work. Merc’s simulations had Hamilton safe from losing the lead in France. They say the simulations favor more rear wing. Time for them to go against the simulations and stop expecting a different result with the same barn door RW approach.
