A bit off topic, but I’m seriously impressed with Gasly, really proving to be moving towards to the top guys. McLaren should keep him as a viable plan B if one of our seats become available, likely from 2023.
I would happily replace Ricciardo with Gasly. The only disadvantage is the marketing appeal

Amen. I do think GAS is very decent indeed but hell that’s last years RB chassis with some current bits bolted on for good measure. It’s a really good car! And Yuki just isn’t delivering.

I like our current pairing. They play the team game well and they are out there to push for themselves too. All you can ask for. This track id say is not indicative of RIC getting on top of his issues with the MCL35M but you know what, he’s improving. Credit to him

Tsunoda is an overhyped mess who has been outqualified everytime so difficult to rate Gasly. But where he has put the Alpha Tauri figjtin deserves praise.

I love Ricciardo. Hope he gets another season with the new 2022 car which will be radically different. If he doesn't improve, then Mclaren should look @ options. But Gasly has a contract till 2023, the same year Ricciardo's contract expires.

Norris has a great chance of podium with Bottas grid penalty. Norris-Ricciardo can get a double Mclaren podium given RB doesn't look that great - I think this week Mclaren & RB are equal on pace or Mclaren may be a shade ahead with Norris !

Kudos to Daniel with his best qualifying for McLaren since Spain!
Didn't DR start 4th in Spa?

Agreed, that’s why I referred to him as a good plan B. I have zero doubts about Daniel, I was actually looking at a situation where one of our driver wants to leave, like Carlos. I’ve been watching F1 long enough to know that Daniel is a very fast and good driver. I’m sure the MCL35M is just a car with characteristics he’s never encountered. Hopefully he’ll get his reset with the 2022 car.
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

True… Someway somehow that whole weekend is a void in my mind 👀

Completely forgot about it… But this one, was on pace without any external factors 🤓

Its mostly due to the fact that Monza is one of simpler tracks and its easier for him to overcome his discomfort with the car.
If i would get the money to start my own F1 team, i would revive Arrows

They would need Hulk nearby if Lando gets a penalty weekend pass.

At this point, as long as he is up there and in a position to help the team with good points, I don’t think the why matters :)

Considering Ferrari is gonna get an upgraded engine after Monza do we have any news from Mercedes if they are gonna bring something extra to the Mercedes Engine as we will need all the help we can get.

I don't think so, they can't bring a legit performance upgrade due to homologation rules and even if they brought a reliability upgrade that allowed the running of higher modes over a race distance its a spec change so Mclaren will have to eat a Grid place penalty to get that extra performance as they have introduced all 3 non-penalty PU's into the pool, when Ferarri take their penalties to get their new engine Mclaren needs to absolutely maximize as much points that weekend to make the most of it.

Team Report after Qualifying:

Lando Norris:

"I'm satisfied with today – we’re back in a much better position after last weekend, and we seem much more competitive. I think it’s the perfect start to the weekend. There was a possibility of being P3 if I'd put the lap completely together – but one small mistake, I think, cost us. It's a bit of a shame that I missed out on it, but fourth still puts us in a very good position compared to the people we’re really racing against and battling with this weekend and for the Championship. I'm happy – and it's a good way to bounce back after last week."

Daniel Ricciardo:

“From a general standpoint, I’m happy. We were fast and were fighting for top three on the grid, so I’m happy we had the potential to do that. But I’m so frustrated that we got that close but not quite close enough. It was more of a tease than anything, but it’s all good.

“I think the team performance was great. We didn’t put ourselves in a difficult situation with any of the out-laps and I was in the right places in terms of track position, we had good tows. My only frustration is that it’s so close and, unfortunately, I was on the wrong side of the milliseconds. It is what it is and I’m now looking forward to the racing.”

Andrea Stella:

“One aspect of the Sprint Qualifying format is that it allows us to see where we are much earlier in the weekend. Today, we found out that we’re competitive at this track, and expect it to be better for our car than Zandvoort was. We had a difficult event last weekend, so it’s encouraging that we could bounce back immediately and put ourselves in a good position to score well here at Monza. There’s a lot to do before that, with Sprint Qualifying tomorrow following a final practice session. We need to keep working hard, keep thinking and optimise all of the variables still within our control to ensure we can maximise our opportunity.”

Your kidding right? Gasly got smashed by Max. Ricciardo was the only recent driver who gave Max a run for his money. Dan is coming good and has the runs on the board over many years in many different cars. Not to mention everything else he brings to the team. There is no comparison.

Glad to see him up and about and angry about a few 1/100s in qually. The fire is still there!
