Unbelievable to be in this situation so early in the season, even before the first sprint weekend.

Williams need to swallow the poison pill and sign a RBR/RB type deal with AMR Honda for 2026. They could run the 2024 car through 2025 with minimal updates, and spend huge on infrastructure next year while bootstrapping AMRs huge investment into their own.

James Vowels could strike gold if he's bold enough.

Aston Martin is in the progress of obtaining the tools, resources and manpower to start engineering and manufacturing their own gearboxes from 2026 onward. I doubt they have the resources initially to supply and support further teams.

Also RB runs Red Bulls previous-year specification. 2026 will be the first spec of those regulations so Williams would need to immediately be on the up to date spec. It won't be realistic for Aston Martin to handle that situation I think.

Also I'm not sure what the benefit would be for Williams going with Aston Martin/Honda over Mercedes.

Williams could offload the gearbox from AMRH, and I dont see the facilities being the problem as they are already operational.

And like Fernando said today, Mercedes are behind AMR.

Maybe it's nothing, but there's a chance Williams might be working on an Advanced Engineering / Applied Technologies division.
On January 25th 2024, a new company by the name of WILLIAMS GRAND PRIX TECHNOLOGIES LIMITED was registered at Companies House. It's based in Grove, owned by BCE LLC (Dorilton), and has key Williams-F1-personnel as directors.

Nature of business (SIC):
71122 - Engineering related scientific and technical consulting activities
71129 - Other engineering activities
71200 - Technical testing and analysis
74909 - Other professional, scientific and technical activities not elsewhere classified
Williams press release officially launching Williams Grand Prix Technologies.

According to Joe Saward, there's every chance we could see Antonelli replace Sargeant in Williams already in Imola

And they call it a stall. A STALL!

If you read the original green notebook from Saward it's extremely speculative and has been taken by these repost sites as something more than that. Saward writes this sort of wild speculation all the time and very little materializes

I thought Williams were one of the first to have a division like that

No doubt, but it is a provocative idea, so wanted to share in any case

They were but they sold it to finance themselves thanks to the era around the pandemic. I think they sold to Fortescue Metals.

James Vowles has confirmed that Williams is in talks with Adrian Newey.

However, he said that the talks were "preliminary" and superficial.

He expects them to meet again

He can only hope, what a mess. Inherited a solid car that was better than the rivals and stopped development early to focus on this year car. The car under him is easily the slowest car now Alpine have upgraded their chassis.
Deja Vu another Merc saviour who wants to turn the place upside down but then fails to deliver the one thing that matters. Capito was unfairly sacked compared to Vowles who comes up with excuses after excuses with nothing to show.

I don’t think it’s time to judge him yet- pretty sure in the off season James had said they’d taken some decisions that may not demonstrate progress in the immediate term, but that would be the best in the long term. Can’t remember what it was he was referring to but may have been the facilities etc- Williams IMHO is a real sleeper project - they can surprise everyone in a few seasons.

I thought Capito retired? Am I thinking of someone else then?

For the rest, it does look like another big shot from Mercedes coming in and trying to run Williams in the same way an unlimited budget team works. Especially Mercedes, who seem to work more like a government department with little idea of real world costs and efficiencies.
