I wouldn't say out of luck entirely. Banker lap should've been fine, possibly pole. Also, the fact that he gets so many technical problems suggests that his approach might be a bit different than Rosberg's.

- Haha very nice, Bottas kind of blew it, Williams very comfortable through third sector and these tricky turns
- Merc drivers suddenly don't look that special, that's atrophy of skills - no competition - no need to push, some competition - we don't know what to do. Hamilton messed up at least one lap badly, no excuses please this time and blaming the car, he was shaky in eighth whole day
- Wasn't Merc much faster on long runs anyway, they can't lose it even nursing engine?

Finally.... Williams Martini F1 Team is Back!!!

Post

After uncountable times underperforming this year, this team has finally delivered in big style: A 1&2 to block the first row of the grid.

In preseason it was evident they were the only ones that had potential to fight Mercedes for victories, but failed miserably in the first races of the year.

Today we had a Great Bottas, he was P1 during the whole day, first in Practice 3, and then during most of Q3, only to be bettered by his teammate Felipe Massa in his last atempt to grab the first pole position of the year for any other team than Mercedes.

What a beautiful car and journey. Hope tomorrow they start completing pitstops without a single mistake.

I don't know driving in another way which isn't risky. Each one has to improve himself. Each driver has its limit. My limit is a little bit further than other's.

Wonder if there's going to be a repeat of Canada since Mercedes will have to push again.

Looking at massa's pole lap this williams probably had 0.3s in hand. Locking up, missing apexes in at least 3 corners.

Wow Paddy Lowe sounds totally shaken up.

Signs of competition causing cracks?

A normal rear lockup isn't so 'snappy' looked like something was wrong, but as mentioned by others, Hamilton failed to nail his banker third time in a row -.-

What competition? The Mercs totally blew it themselves...The W05 was easily 0.4-0.5 faster than the Williams. They just didn't do the job right,Massa did.On a side note its just Austria,in upcoming races i can see the Williams going back in the upper midfield plus i can't really see them winning this race either but congrats at least they managed to break the Mercedes streak of poles =D>

Agreed, the same can be said of Bottas' Q2 lap.

I'm happy to see Williams back in front. Hopefully, this qualifying performance inspires the pit crew to not #%$@ up tomorrow.

What are the chanches of Jenson starting on softs NOT super softs from P11? I can't imagine him starting on the super softs given Mclaren's behaviour on the super softs. As P11 he can chose the tyres, so what do you think, will he chose the softs?
Please help me with this. Thanks.

Signs of competition? Nothing against Williams as they did a good job. But mistakes were the order of the day. One who committed less mistakes took the pole. When Lewis made the mistake, he was already 3 tenth up by sector 2.

Here is the long run times from Friday FP2. Williams were the only ones who were closer to Merc, but how much?

At least he had the revenge on Rosberg by destroying his pole lap ;)

I expect Button and Vettel on Softs. Both have no topspeed to overtake...as overtaking is hard, both will have to do something else with their strategy.

Still a second slower...
Williams had no issues with tire warming. So it seems they are on an aggressive setup. May be a problem tomorrow with someone else taking one stop less.

Williams have good pace but the Mercedes have the ultimate pace especially on the softs, they can hold Nico up until the pit stops at best. Though who knows after the last race what will happen, we have reached the crazy phase of the championship.
