They were on US, but didn’t manage to do any clear lap it seems. It surprised me too.

Or they are praying for rain, or they will try to get rid of the ultrasofts very quickly.. But it's looking like damage limitation at this track for Mercedes.

Damage limitation for Merc and especially for Hamilton. Wonder if team orders will come in to play. You know Valtteri is better around this track than Hamilton.

They did, but they both messed them up on the US tires with sliding and locking.

I'm schocked at the falseness of this article. It says that Hamilton and Bottas on Ultrasofts were 0.75 sec and over 1 sec respectively behind Vettel, but both did their lap times on Softs. They tried faster laps on Ultrasofts at the end, but obviously both had mistakes in their laps, hence not finishing them properly.

A full flying lap is meant to be a clear lap doing a Qualifying simulation. In fact, both did that, but on Softs and both tried to do one on Ultrasofts.

And I don't think that they were sandbagging out of no where. They were sliding all around the track which shows that they were not in relaxed mode.

Just pointing out the mistakes in this article (or did I miss anything?). It still can be that Mercedes does an amazing job overnight and performs best tomorrow.

My mistake, should've written - What's with Merc US laps? Surprised to see they had trouble like that.

Ferrari fastest in S1 and S3, S2 is for RedBull. Mercs can keep with the lead only in S1.

Based on a quick glance at lap times in race sim, Merc is a few tenths slower on soft tyres than Ferrari. On ultras it was closer overall, however Seb did pull out a few significantly faster laps on ultras than Merc. Very close, again.

Not sure if you want to be on Softs while others are on US at the start. It's quite a long way to turn 1.
