Because sadly, they are most likely the future of Formula One.
Bernie is driven purely by profit, and in his mind, he wants a dumbed-down system. First he suggested the three medals solely. That received a very negative response from the great majority. But he still wanted it implimented. So now, after the meeting, we have a compromise. There is a form of medal system, just a Gold for Win right now. But beware that sly fox. Bernie will most likely get his way in the future, and eventually we shall see the three medal system. Somehow, somewhen, it will happen.
It's very difficult to rationalize any argument against the previous points system, we as fans witnessed in the last two years title battles that came down to the last race, and the winner decided by the very slimmest of margins. I find that hard to improve on. But then again, my perspective is one of a racing fan, solely interested by what happens on track. Bernie sees things differently, he is driven to explore new ways to make more money. And that way is to draw in more fans from new generations or locations. Make it very simple, easy to understand... dooh, even Homer Simpson could understand it.
But the changes are in place, all the teams are aware of it, and everyone is starting on an equal footing. May the best team win. And I sincerely hope, no injuries or such disasters occur.
Personally, I will accept the new system, despite my desire to hang on to the old system. But we must face changes, and deal with them.
Racing should be decided on the track, not the court room.
