I’m very interested to hear what the team say.
This is a unique track but this is the first time McLaren haven’t contended for pole since Barcelona.
I suspect they got something wrong? They, especially Norris hasn’t shown any indications of being this slow all weekend
The wind picked up. That generally is a good change up for the cars.
I thought the wind wasn’t a weakness of this Mclaren though?
Less sensitive but not without effect. May not be the wind, but it did change conditions.

Lando "It's not tyres, it's not 'cause they're too hot or too cold, or all this nonsense. Or the water. It's just our car doesn't suit these conditions."
That’s what I thought.
They had a shocking quali here last year too.
One thing I’m noticing is this season Mclaren seem to dramatically improving their weakness’s from last season to almost now being the best in class.
Looks like Las Vagas (really low temperatures) was one weakness to many to fully resolve

Lando mentioned ‘these conditions’ so yes the wind must have been a factor.

It was yellow because he matched his previous lap and was a hair slower, not that he made a mistake.
But, when everyone else was improving on sectors, being slower must be classed as an error somewhere. The track had improved.
Waiting for telemetry to be uploaded on f1tempo to see if he made a mistake or not, from onboards it looked clean.

Something happened b/w Q2 and Q3, two McLarens, a VCARB and a Haas - they didn't improve their Q2 times by much ; while others did, by considerable margins.
Large delay b/w Q2 and Q3 => track temp dropped further ? how did others cope ? did all those guys adapt their tyre warmup procedure, but these four didn't ? or were these 4 cars already hitting their absolute limit in Q2 itself ?

Like I say, it must just be weakness they haven’t had resource to correct yet.

Bring on the hards

But also the cold temperatures.

Race will mainly be on hard which hasn't really been pushed, so some of the race predictions continue to be erring on the side of foolish, stubbornly refusing to learn lessons over 20 times a year for many years now, for some posters.

May well have been clean, but it's a surprise if everyone else is going faster, he isn't. Seems odd.

I also find it strange who many are saying the RB have the wrong wing. Like they've unpacked after holiday and realised they gave the wrong trunks or something.
You may have a point, people get it wrong. Is not like they choosed the wrong Rw and came here with a Monaco spec. I think who Verstappen explained is more clear, RedBull doesn't have a proper RW for Monza and Vegas for 2024. Is like McLaren was in the past, you know our discussion about the team effort to be prepared for races in Italy, Baku and USA where a very low donwforce RW was required. 2024 is the first year McLaren did this and worked. Red Bull maybe thought that what they have, based in total domination from 2023, is enough. And seems is not.

Silver lining in the result is that Russel looks fast. We should hope for a Russel victory to take away plenty of points from Ferrari.

We need both cars to finish.

Red Bull didn't choose the wrong wing. Horner has been happily mocking that rumour.

Of course they didn't! Can't believe people are parroting it.

Looks like no one used a hard other than to scrub them.
I’m just hoping for Mclarens season long good race pace for the race, however with this being such a unique set of conditions I’m not holding out much hope

The fight for WCC will be held in Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

Ferrari vs McLaren for the first title in 16 years (Ferrari) or 26 years (McLaren). Like the old times.

As Formula 1 should be.
