How come Max 2 seconds in front saw it?
He missed the first screen and saw the one longer down the straight.
How come Lando didn't see the one further down the straight?
I’m not saying it shouldn’t have been a penalty, just that I think he was at the wrong spot at the wrong time.

He might have caught the moment of a flickering marker, since he was infront. As far as i saw on the left though, it went on when Norris was beside. I bet Mclaren will take a good look at the video footage and if they see that board malfunctioned in that time, the race itself can get deleted.
They were flags, not boards.

No, there was a digital board that went on just as he passed.

The board is at the top, flag bellow?

No, correction... it was the board, then flag and another board. The board light up when he was alongside, but the marshall was waving his flag there... hard to see though.

Digital boards were switched on with delay, between them was a marshall that was waving a yellow flag. The penalty itself was to be given, but waiting to do it for so long was unprofessional to say the least.

The fact that Verstappen can lift 10% for less than a second and avoid a penalty despite not actually slowing down goes to show how idiotic the rules are. If any of this actually was about safety that wouldn't be allowed.

I seem to recall he lost at least 0.5 seconds, at least that is what the F1TV crew were saying. Lifting under yellows is more about signaling that you are aware and on the lookout, not actually slowing down.

Neither Ferrari lifted for the yellows apparently.

Yes but with mitigating circumstances, applying the harshest penalty and to put it out of reach of appeal with a penalty not used in over 2 years?

The penalty is inconsistent with anything I've seen.

The Yellow was flashing on and off constantly. Was it even on when Leclerc and Sainz drove by? They were ~13 and ~17 seconds behind Verstappen, respectively.

Doesn't matter if the marshal was still waving the flags. But I have no way of checking that.

Well yes obviously, but the yellow flag was very intermittent and only flew on and off in a ~10 second timespan.

This tweet isn't 100% correct. Leclerc lifted in the minisector which is enough (and he had slowed down anyway). Sainz didn't lift at all but I'm not sure if he was under yellows then or not.

Can the team appeal and delete a whole race?
is that you, DarthPiekus, under a different alias ?
The desperation in this message is what makes me ask..

The race control and stewarding was, today :
delayed decisions and disproportionate penalties, after weighing possible championship outcomes.
Or if I have to substitute the above sentence with one word, "scum".

The biggest danger w.r.t WCC is the worst case scenario for AbuDhabi : Ferrari 1-2 with fastest lap, implying a +23 offset w.r.t current scoreboard.
- that will mean atleast one McLaren has to be P3 and the other has to be P4 or P5.
- if they can't grab a podium, P4-P5 won't be enough.

In other words, either Max or Russel or a demotivated Hamilton have to be in the mix to steal points off Ferrari, if Mclaren are slower than them in AbuDhabi.

This is what I meant by weighing possible championship outcomes

I wonder if Mercedes gonna help their clients and Max gonna help his friend in the last race
This is clearly a LaLa Land hope, that someone will 'help' a client/friend. There are no friends on track, especially from rival teams. Outside, yes, inside, no. These guys may end up fighting with Ferraris and indirectly help Mclaren.

Have confidence in the team, put faith in the drivers. This is the time the team and drivers have to show their 'worth'.

(personally, I think McLaren will keep the WCC by matching/exceeding the Ferrari pace in AbuDhabi)

It should have been on, since the root issue had not been resolved at all.
