no reliability = too thin pistons
If only it were that easy. :D

I was thinking more on the lines of fragile engine = lowered revs = less hp.
Though I'm no expert on engines.

Well you said that pistons cause realibility problems

They could keep same pistons and lower the revs but that would be a power -

.i read in a different article that the problem is more with the gearbox then the engine?..what do you guys make of that?
Its always easy to blame the gear box. It seems that most often especially with Honda the drivers are trained to say ''the gear box''
The fact of the matter is this. Mercedes going all the way back to CART, have alwayd had more blow ups than anybody else. They are trully blessed to be in that Mclaren chassis. Put a shelf Cosworth in the back of that Mclaren and see it shoot to the tops of the charts.
To finish first, first you must finish.

I also think they started developing new engine earlier than last week but even when Mercedes looked confident about their engines it failed several times during season and if they're having problems that are so easy to see during pre-season then dunno if we (Mac fans) should await our team's debut with optimism..

how is the gearbox possible, last year they had a very good, reliable gearbox, so this year with less power and torque, how could they have --- it up? well, mclaren...

normally when they are recording the cound it is to get an idea of how many revs their competitors are running.

Now if you had type of sound of F1 car and know speed of car (of cause direction too)in this moments you can gess about revs, gearing_proces, traction control working, and so on..... then you can record sound of many session and tnen you can compare and find out many things....

It's very cool microphone...

If they paid 10.000 euros for that mic than they should have bought stative with scope too because that would enable more precise directioning of mic towards the car in the distance and exclude any hand vibration.

If I was their oposition I'd send some mechanic who had chilli for lunch to fart near that mic (it might appear on recording as traction control)

what would they make out of that one? "what the hell, they have two engines, one at 18000 rpm and one at 800 rpm, sounds like a bigblock!" :)
