Vodafone McLaren MP4-27 Mercedes

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Reflection? Sweet. That makes even more sense.

I'd say this is a hole for testing, maybe a sensor is in there.
The blown front wing thing to me is almost ridiculous. just almost; as you never can tell what is possible. But using the little that i know, this is much different than a rear wing, and it doesn't need to be blown; it has as many elements as the team needs and is very open in design.
Putting choked slowed down air behind it through a slit wont solve anything.Might as well bore a hole through the wing in the first place.
The W duct thing makes as much sense as setting a midget in the nose to use his little lung strength to blow though the pylons when the car turns.
For Sure!!

...

Glad I'm not the only one slightly puzzled/heavily amused by this "blown front wing" talk lol.

The drivers numbers on the nose seems to be different. Do they paste on new stickers on the same wing when a different driver takes over? Either that or the wing could really be different.

In my opinion main plate is totaly different. It looks like empty inside so it's not for collecting data for sure. If you want to check something you can put some sensors on the wing...

Another shot - different angle

That upper hole, close to the nose is visible on the other side too ( ringo's first posted picture above ). So it's at least symmetrical, which is not always a requirement for testing devices. So far it's not enough for me to believe in FW f-duct theory.

Same reflection on both sides ? Isn't that 'highly unlikely' ?

Not if the angle is the same on both shots, presumably

It's just a reflection and a lack of flo vis paint.

Look at the position of that hole closest to the nosecone, even if that were a hole, it would be far from ideal placed.
And at the vertical wingplates, would you consider that holes?
Thank you really doesn't really describe enough what I feel. - Vettel

Why then, would you have a team principal that went so far as to quantify the top speed advantage it brings?
