Difficult to tell. These conditions are being told to be better then during last year's race weekend. We have both harder tyres now, but last year they used the medium for qualy and Magnussen used the super soft for that time. And I think half a second could be found in fuel load alone.

Still, I think more is certainly to be found. Both aero and engine wise improvements will get there.

Actually I think it's safe to say Mclaren are running a strong engine map, perhaps not full power but darn close. They are near their qualy time last year with this lap and they have a rather large chunk of aero performance less than last year, I believe what they just showed is very near their suspected capabilities.

I really hope McLaren havent cranked up the power to create a fast time just to attract sponsors. It could be McLaren and Lotus battling over the Sony sponsorship with McLaren setting fast times on the track and Lotus claiming unbelieveable downforce figures in the wind tunnel.

But im just crossing my fingers that McLaren really has a fast car this year. [-o<

That and as was stated, running the SS tires probably net a good chunk of time compared to the mediums.

I'm not sure it is Mclarens call what Engine Map they're using. Button said all Mercedes Teams work together with everyone trying different maps so the engine gets developed as good as it gets.

And i don't think they get the full Juice just yet.

Lewis stated there is more to come drom Mercedes Engine Power wise.

Not necessarily. Mclaren and the works MB team do not have the same engine maps. I believe it's not unreasonable to suggest MB will get the most out of their own power unit. Mclaren haven't suggested what they have been doing with their maps, and I believe today's hot lap is nearly representative of their pushing the power unit for the first time.

Everyone will need to push their drivetrain during testing this year so I don't expect anyone to completely hold back.

Yes but how do these tyres compare to last year's? The whole line is harder now, giving less performance. Say they are 1s slower, and the difference between the medium and super soft is 1s, it nulifies the advantage and disadvantage.

agreed. It's difficult to say what performance the tires have vs last year and their various compound deltas

Is the supersoft tyre available in this test?

Hmmm, AMuS claims that Magnussen was on softs when he did his quickest lap.

EDIT: Now they say he went out on SS and that they're going to check on which tyre he did his quickest lap.

Now they write that they are not sure whether he used the SS or just S. Currently he's on the SS.
