Red Bull RB8 Renault

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

link? Makes sense though.. there is no other visible holes to cool the driver. should still function as an air damn because by the looks of it that slot can't be more than 5mm wide.

Agreed. Here's good shot of the nose

My guess is that there isn't space for driver cooling with the new wafer thin noses. To comply with the crash tests they have to fill the nose entirely.

Here's an analysis.

Diffuser looks similar to last year.
Thanks Crucial!

could this be possible? to put more flow under the bulkhead?
Isnt it illegal to have a hole through the nose?? After Ferrari's F2007.
Exactly what I was thinking. It was after the F2008 that I thought this kind of thing was banned, although with the Ferrari air flowed from under the nose and exited from the slot on the top of the nose.
This would be doing it the other way round but pretty certain it would still be illegal.
Anyone with a good knowledge of the rules who can confirm this please?

Seeing as though it likely illegal to be feeding air under the car, surely there are only 2 possibilities - driver cooling or an air dam like nSmikle said or a combination of both?

That's pretty big!

And presumably they think it might be getting a bit warm.... or is that just what they want us to think?

That sensors indicate that they will blow below beam wing.

the beam wing looks like it has a protective cover on, maybe they're taking temps over and under the wing before they uncover it

What are those blue and orange strips used for?
That beam wing looks very interesting.
How much benefit would exiting hot air from the sidepods through that funnel onto the beam wing bring?
They seemed to be the team that exploited this the most last year too with that huge trumpet shaped funnel but not all that much was made of it - could it be an important component of their success?

It is possible : holes are forbidden through the nose, but not through the survival cell. The Red Bull vent is part of the cell, not of the nose.

Slippery rear end. I'm hearing Webber really has to take it easy at turn 3, 4, and 5.
