My guess is that there isn't space for driver cooling with the new wafer thin noses. To comply with the crash tests they have to fill the nose entirely.

I know somebody will shoot this down with a comment along the lines of "it's a perforated gurney" (which TBH I don't truly know what that means), but that looks for all the world like a second deck to me, where the gurney would otherwise be.

Isnt it illegal to have a hole through the nose?? After Ferrari's F2007.

Exactly what I was thinking. It was after the F2008 that I thought this kind of thing was banned, although with the Ferrari air flowed from under the nose and exited from the slot on the top of the nose.
This would be doing it the other way round but pretty certain it would still be illegal.
Anyone with a good knowledge of the rules who can confirm this please?

That beam wing looks very interesting.
How much benefit would exiting hot air from the sidepods through that funnel onto the beam wing bring?
They seemed to be the team that exploited this the most last year too with that huge trumpet shaped funnel but not all that much was made of it - could it be an important component of their success?

It is possible : holes are forbidden through the nose, but not through the survival cell. The Red Bull vent is part of the cell, not of the nose.
