I think Lando's penalty is harsh and should be appealed.

Decision Drop of five grid places

(3 penalty points imposed, total of 5 points in the 12 month period)

Reason The Stewards heard from the driver of Car 4 (Lando Norris), the team representative
and have reviewed video, radio, telemetry and marshalling system evidence.
Car 4 approached turn 8 which was under double waved yellow flags for Car 6 (Nicolas
Latifi). Telemetry shows that Car 4 slowed in the sector and resumed speed after the
incident. Car 4 then asked his team if he should abort the lap, but was told to stay out
because of the rapidly changing track conditions. Car 4 completed the lap, which
turned out to be his fastest lap of Q1. While the stewards acknowledge that Car 4 was
not attempting to set a quick lap time, due to the changing track conditions he
nevertheless did so and thereby breached the referenced regulations.
Competitors are reminded that they have the right to appeal certain decisions of the
Stewards, in accordance with Article 15 of the FIA International Sporting Code and
Article 10.1.1 of the FIA Judicial and Disciplinary Rules, within the applicable time
limits.

Tell you what, at 50 seconds there`s a car off track facing right at him, the lad did seem to slow down/lift off until he passed it though, I think it actually helped him!

Did you consider that the driver's visibility could have been a factor for Stewards?
Easy to sit in front of a computer and watch HD videos in slomo and opine, oh yeah it was clear case of penalty.

Why are people sour about the qualifying? It was thrilling and entertaining. In a rare game of non actors being protagonists, who cares about a few missed standards?

I feel the same way, it felt silly and artificial because it was almost a crap-shoot for whoever got the tyres working well.

That grid lineup is in no way indicative of driver skill, which apparently is all we rely on in conditions like this lol. I think Max is odds on for the win tomorrow from the front row. Unless it's dry and then I expect maybe the Mercedes to make their way through.

There you go. This has been F1 for 7 years now and some of the rationale fans of Mercedes would be yawning on couch with the current "Racing". A bit of change is welcome. On pure performance, Mercedes was nowhere today. Deserving guy did well when it mattered today. Anyone that did not like the show, well deal with it please.

But isn’t that what it is is supposed to be.

I loved the 80’s. Bizarre power, huge turbolags, no tyre heaters. These guys were spending half of the time hanging on to their machines. Fishtailing over the straights.

Current cars are impressive. But I find it refreshing to see the drivers being presented with issues that cannot be solved by a bit of diff magic here, or a engine setting there. It’s been a while that I have seen such seat of the pants driving.

The low grip asphalt I can dig. Low grip seems to be an equalizer that brings out talent. The tires I am less pleased about. It seems to be nearly impossible to get the cars to work with the range of tires. And some teams cannot get any to work. That is not good.

This is exactly my sentiment. I like low grip, I don't like it having such a huge impact on car performance to the point that the drivers are just complete passengers however.

The race tomorrow should be totally unpredictable, but we could also see a tonne of crashes which would be bad.
