So you are confirming that firstly FIA said it is legal, than they have said that it is not, but not in this weekend.
So:
1) for this GP they are3 legal
2) next one probably not.
3) please let me know which technical rule they do not respect

For sure the tyres are not Ferrari designed for, but Mercedes.

For one race... And I am sure two winglets are worth at least 0.5 sec a lap! Only reason it is banned is because Mercedes and Red Bull did not bring similar bits.

It's one thing to have parts declared illegal after they passed scrutineering, it's an entirely different thing to burn tyres lap after lap in pit lane during winter testing, just to have them changed to fit your car for the actual race.
Not to mention that the wing-mirror on the Ferrari is nowhere near being as important for performance as having the right tyres. So F1Krof wanted to make a point there, but missed it.

Who knows the impact of FIA ban on the exhaust blowing settings (waste gate manipulation) that were clarified last week. May be that hurt Ferrari.
May be the ban in ancillary units to push oil into cumbustion chamber might have hurt!

If the tyres were a reason, PIRELLI changed the construction for this year, who knows Ferrari did not play part in that decision? May be if these were the tyres from the beginning, Ferrari wouldn't have been competitive at all.

People forget, with the previous specification tyres, Mercedes did get a massive pole in Melbourne!

It seems that Ferrari-Mercedes are almost on par on S1, Mercedes 2 tenths faster in S2 and Ferrari 1 tenth and something in S3.
I think that S2 is more medium-high corner speed while S3 is Monaco-style sector. So, what we had last year, in terms of who is strong where, seems to stay this year as well.

The race is on the softs and i suspect mercedes will only have pole to celebrate this weekend.....
dont try to change the arguement to nonsense specualtion.
Ferrari was ONE TENTH off the Mercedes pole time on the harder tire.....we shall see how the race ends

It is what it is I guess - if the tyres this year happened to have suited Mercedes more then perhaps they’d have more poles already - so we just have to put up with it and at least be aware that it’s only three races this year where these ‘alternate’ compounds will appear.

Odd though the whole thing is, given Ferrari looked faster on the softs, I think we could be in for an interesting race - even if a bit manufactured, we end up with a situation where it may well be the quicker race cars are behind (and Red Bull might well be even quicker in the race) which is better for the neutral than if the quickest cars romp away at the front.

Bit of a tough pill to swallow but not much we can do about it and should hopefully make for some fun tomorrow.

salty guys/gals: the revised specs are for 3 RACES only! Get a grip on it! Just because Merc brought little visible upgrades doesnt mean they didnt do their homework. Theyve historically been fast here anyways and the top 3 teams are still close. Besides its 0.4mm... its nothing over the course of the life of the tire.

so banning the blowing exhaust makes you go faster with S and slower with SS tyres...
it's a kind of magic for sure...
would it be cheating or not, all the evidence logically indicate that the tyre thread reduction have been well managed by mercedes and not by ferrari and redbulls.
I remember Isola saying the choiche would have been between thread reduction and harder compund (same than last year). maybe harder compound would have caused less controversies

It is widely quoted that blowing the rear wing brings a very small benefit. Further more, Renault are blowing their rear wing. They even set up their exhaust for it. Ferrari did not set their exhaust for it yet they are the ones blowing their rear wing and gaining massively from something worth very little? If it was as effective we would have seen quite a few teams copy it. The FIA only banned it because Red Bull and Mercedes suspected something on the Ferrari because it is fast. But then Pirelli decided that enough is enough and engineered tyres so that one team can gain an advantage. That hurt Ferrari's performance.

Turn 9 (campsa) - Ferrari, mercedes and RB all had a minimum speed of 261, which is something like 11 kmh faster than last year.
