Ferrari are going through a staged process like McLaren. But the word is...whisper it...the car isnt all there at the moment.

Thanks for the heads up!

I really don't know why they are still running last years front wing. The thing is a special for fixing the EBD/Cosworth woes, and I can't see how it's appropriate to this set of rules. Get rid of that swept leading edge Williams, you don't need it any more.

Sauber tend to set some blistering lap times toward the end of testing. The retreat to midfield in the races.

So how much does a fastest time over one of these four days mean then? Well if we cast our minds back 12 months, the fastest man on day one of testing at Jerez was Felipe Massa. The next day it was Michael Schumacher, followed by Nick Heidfeld and Rubens Barrichello on days three and four. Universally underwhelming seasons followed with two of those drivers no longer in F1 and the other two out-performed by their team-mates during 2011. So keep that pinch of salt handy, eh

I actually liked the look of the Williams when I saw pictures of it.

Who knows they may have a new wing in the works. But that rear on the Williams does look sexy even if it is an alleged dog....

@ horse - You are right. Sauber & Williams are the first two teams to come to mind who are running on very low fuel in testing.

BUT STR case is a bit different. They have the most consistent Lap times in the whole day. I mean all I see are 1-22's,1-20's & 1-21's with a few higher. Seriously I dont buy all their runs are on low to mid fuels.

On top of that Nakajima set the fastest Jerez time in early '09 with a 1:17.494. Says it all really.

If the cars today were to really go for it I bet they'd be a couple seconds faster on top of that, so all the times so far are completely meaningless.

Schumacher - 1.18.561 - 53
Webber - 1.19.184 - 58
Ricciardo - 1.19.587 - 41
Bianchi - 1.20.221 - 461
Raikkonen - 1.20.239 - 26
Button - 1.20.688 - 25
Massa - 1.21.060 - 38
Maldonado - 1.21.197 - 61
Perez - 1.21.289 - 35
Kovalainen - 1.21.518 - 78
De La Rosa - 1.23.741 - 23

From f1-direct.fr with Name - Best Time - Laps.

McLaren not putting many laps on the car today. Only De La Rosa has done less than Button. Are McLaren having reliability trouble again?

EDIT: Had Massa as "Ferrari". I've changed it above.

The final column (no. of laps) is perhaps a better indicator of how well they are getting through their test programme.

Mclaren's floor is getting burned (Rumours). They are said to be running a trick exhaust.

Massa has finally got a few 1-23's & 1-22's. I thought Ferrari were in the doghouse. They had like multiple 1-35's & 1-34's. I can understand traffic & system checks & stuff but a huge portion of their times were that bad.

Looks like they are getting a move on now

What is Lotus up to? Three lap stint, loosing half a second per lap!
The speed of Ayrton Senna.
The mind of Alain Prost.
The dedication of Michael Schumacher.
The determination of Alex Zanardi.

I liked the 80's tyre regulations. Nothing was really mandated. All the different compounds were available and they could mix and match and go with any combination of tyre choices and stops they liked.

well that's dangerously close to a proper race! Free choice of tyre compounds? Next you'll be saying they should ban devices that make overtaking easy when you are behind another car!
