Another thing on the horizon is the tire warmer ban (maybe 2025 finally). That is going to have an alarming effect on the current car philosophy.

I’m surprised that the other teams voted against banning the tire warmers. That would have shuffled things considerably.

Simdriver Rudy van Buren drove the RB20 in the sim. Logically, he is not releasing much about it.
"There are developments and I'll leave it at that."
Here's what he will/can say:
(The video starts at the point where he talks about the RB20. You can choose your own language for subtitles.)

.
This week we had a conversation with Rudy van Buren, sim driver at Red Bull Racing, in which we talked about Max Verstappen's
impressive season, his involvement in testing the all-new F1 car for the upcoming year the RB20.

Perez to retire this year?

https://reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/ ... nt_during/
Certainly interesting to read. Checo retirement would prevent focus being on the inevitable RB decision which would be positive for the team... Also would make sense since Sergio was already ready to step back from F1 after 2020 if he didn't get a good offer & his heart doesn't seem in it. And he has been very off-form for the last few races.

Marko's statement from the other day makes a lot more sense in this context . . .
Speaking to OE24, Marko was confronted with words from Gerhard Berger, a close friend of Marko himself. Berger stated, "It would probably be wisest, and in Perez's own interest, to leave Red Bull".

"You don't want to hear an answer to that from me so soon before the Mexican Grand Prix...," responded Marko

He could drive for Alpha Tauri and keep his contract. Unless, as the reddit link discusses, they have decided its mutually time to retire.

Not sure how the RB/AT family tree is setup in terms of getting a driver in ASAP for the 2nd RB seat, but Lawson could be the best shout really, Track proven for a good handful of races which is more seat time than DR will get this season. Depending how soon he is back for his hand operation.

No chance to go to AT...

I think this is not a bad story. They announced Yuki in Japan as expected. Now Marco speaks about Mexico...so what should they do, officially Perez is confirmed. I think that the comment only makes sense if he retires at Mexico and waves a nice goodbye to his fans.

I don't think Perez's contract will work the same way as others within the RB sphere such that they can be moved back to alpha tauri. Similarly I doubt that RB could move max to AT if they wanted to, as he has sufficient leverage to get that into his contract

Somehow I feel that Max to AT would have been an oversight in the contract negotiations. So Horner/Marko could still send him back there, we can't be sure... .

The rumour of Perez retiring makes sense. But why would Alpha Tauri confirm Daniel and Yuki ahead of the Japanese GP? Yuki, sure. But why Daniel.

I disagree with Chrisc90, I don't think Lawson is anywhere near ready mentally for Red Bull. If it goes wrong, which it likely will because Verstappen crushes teammates, Red Bull would again be blamed for putting a rookie in the car way too soon just as Kvyat and Albon.

Going by Horners preference for Ricciardo, I bet he'll be given a chance to redeem himself.
Not entirely ruling out a return of Albon either Williams-contract or not.

I don't think Albon would choose coming back to Red Bull to be honest

Emotionally he seems happy at Williams but lets be honest he isn't going to win much there. He would be turning down a 2024(+) Red Bull seat in the hope of landing a Ferrari, Mercedes, Mclaren or Aston seat whenever that might be.

and that's okay. Some drivers are happy just to be in the grid in a low pressure situation. 20 people get to be F1 drivers in any given season. It's a gift even if you are driving for Williams.

Vettel back in the saddle!

It's no issue for them to promote either AT driver and Lawson is promised an AT seat when one opens up? Hardly too complicated to fill in the blanks
