Race simulation accuracy was better when free practise was 1.5 hrs. The teams could actually do longer runs. Since the switch to 1hr FPs last year, the track is so busy with cars doing so many different things, they get in each other's way. Today, I think the long run data is sketchy at best but atleast the data is collect during the same 1 hour window. At bahrain they ran for 3 days and ran in the sunlight and in the dark. Huge variations in temperature between days and wind speeds that cause variation in PU HP and tire degradation on top of having no clue what the independent car fuel level or if the car was setup to run a low DF test at this high DF track. It's like looking at encrypted data, you have no clue what it means, yet we're trying to infer performance from it. A team's data is very usefull to itself cause it can compare changes it made and be very aware of envimental changes that took place between the various points.

Out of all the analysis we read these days i would only take that what Alonso said to Lobato.
Q3 for sure and sometimes take the fight to top teams.
Lets see If this is true or not.

Those things hardly deserve to be called "analysis".

Regarding F1/Barretto's "race sim" analysis, they are usually very approximative/unreliable and they are based on very questionnable calculation methods, but at least he tries to look at the only things that matter: the numbers, while those TheRace journos, and others, base their predictions on many other secondary and stupid factors, and that's why they are always wrong, especially Straw -_-'

You just proved my point. Alpine can have great facilities in a vacuum but if they've been spending 50-67% less than the top teams, then its extremely unlikely for them to have the resources and/or quality of resources of the other teams. The results on track bare this out.
Their technical recruitment, even compared to Aston Martin and Mclaren has been underwhelming. Constant changes in hierarchy and some less than flattering opinions on Rossi from the paddock doesn't provide much basis for optimism. However, the true effects of new financial regs wont be known for at least 2-3 years.
Can you develop please ? I heard many contrasting things about him.
Honestly nothing but hearsay and chinese whispers. About Rossi being authoritative and "in above his head". Likely from someone with connections to Piastri's camp after Ocon's contract was extended. But the acrimonious nature of Budkowski and Prost's departure and subsequent comments made by Prost made me put some credence into at least the first part of it. Now, maybe what Alpine needed was someone to be a bit more assertive after few years of what seems like a complacent team and tough decisions are bound to rub certain people the wrong way. As per the competency part, it remains to be seen and again wont be clear for another 2-3 years at least.

That stuff about Rossi was explained by Rossi in February. He said it was cause he had to get to know the organisation to make the decisions he was going to make. Now that he's done that and put people in places below him, he's gonna go back to doing "his job".

Rossi's résume is quite impressive.

My understanding is that Renault/Alpine have been hiring alot of young guns fresh out of school over the last several years. That they're being groomed to take over.

Thank you for you answer. I heard Prost's comment and at that time I feel it was very harsh from someone like him, and come out of nowhere really.

Regarding Rossi's resume, it's ofc great, but he came from the "business world" more than deep F1 engineering... even if he worked at the powertrain department of Renault road cars for a few years.
Nervertheless, he's really on a project to build a new brand with a motorsport identity, and he's convinced of the fact it is a profitable investment... Let's see

I don't think it's vanilla. It's the same philoshophy as the RedBull side pods just maybe an inch or two smaller undercut.
I do think the car is a bit vanilla. More like like HAAS or AlphaTauri, the Alpine seems to be a middle-of-the-road solution.

It doesn't seem, unlike Red Bull or Mercedes, that Alpine have had the confidence to push their design to the extreme (presumably Alpine having fear of getting stuck with a dud design which is a dead-end, but those other teams back themselves). Which is strange for a team like Alpine who would presumably be planning to use a rules overhaul to create a car to win the WDC & WCC, but it is what is is.

It doesn't seem that Alpine were confident that they would select the best design of their own initiative, but rather they would rather wait to see the others and follow the others, rather than set the trends.

Alpine's approach still seems to reflect the conservative risk-averse thinking of a midfield team, as opposed to the "win at any cost", "push every regulation to and beyond the limit" approach of a team like Mercedes, Red Bull or even Ferrari.

Pat Fry:
“I strongly expect there to be many differences between the cars, especially at first when we see for the very first time how we’ve all interpreted the rule book,” he concluded. “Some parts are fairly set such as the rear wing and the front wing.

I’m sure there will be some interesting concepts that we’ll see from other teams, which we’ll assess back at base after the tests and, equally, that will work vice versa. The intrigue is all part of the excitement when you roll out of the garage for the first time at testing

I think that's down to the resource advantages those teams have as I talked about earlier. I think McLaren is in a similar place re: not pushing everything to extremes, but they are a step ahead of Alpine in the process IMO.

I'm coming around more to El Plan though. Permane's eternal optimism is hard to ignore and I like that they are adapting quickly. I'll wait to see what Alonso's face looks like after quali to see if they are headed in the right direction. He won't be shy about feedback.

Ocon's car lost lots of bodywork from sidepod in FP1, red flag with 52mins to go. Hopefully they have a spare part but fear they won't considering it's a new sidepod design - probably just rolled off the line. Perhaps they will have to revert ocon to previous spec

Car looks difficult trough turns 1-3 and other slow corners. Other that that better Fp1 than expected.

They ran the new sidepods at least on one car which was good.

I was looking at Alonso onboard camera during his fastest lap. Honestly it looked quite difficult to drive. Rear steps out on acceleration out of slow corners. Fast corners and top speed look ok. Engine sounds way better than last year.
P8 not bad at all after winter testing, but lets see how car does under lower temps during night session.
Alonso looks to have upper Hand over Ocon like he did when he destroyed Massa, Button, Vandoorne and Co.
He always toped Ocon time by 2 or 3 tents.
