Sounds like that would be a handful for the race. I had doubts in testing but the shallow rear wing returning just made me picture it handling like this but let’s hope it’s actually better in representative conditions or they have a higher downforce rear wing for FP2.GoranF1 wrote: ↑18 Mar 2022, 15:54I was looking at Alonso onboard camera during his fastest lap. Honestly it looked quite difficult to drive. Rear steps out on acceleration out of slow corners. Fast corners and top speed look ok. Engine sounds way better than last year.
P8 not bad at all after winter testing, but lets see how car does under lower temps during night session.
Alonso looks to have upper Hand over Ocon like he did when he destroyed Massa, Button, Vandoorne and Co.
He always toped Ocon time by 2 or 3 tents.
At least for Alonso they still used them in FP1 so if they work I’m sure they will gather data and still use them on one car. For Ocon depends if they have spare parts.
That short last stint on softs (5 laps old) has coincided on track with Hamilton on softs (7 laps old), Alonso was faster each lap despite the traffic on that moment ( same traffic for both drivers more or less ). We'll see, I want to see that long run charts too but overall looks better than I expected.GoranF1 wrote: ↑18 Mar 2022, 18:11Watched Alonso onboard during his long run this time.Car looked better than Fp1. No big problems in slow corners. Car looked quite neutral this time, balance wise. In the first lap he did he had small oversteer in one of the fast corners. He quickly cought and overtook one of the Sauber cars. He was then ever so quicker than Gasly every lap but didn't came close enough to overtake him. He passed him in the pits, after he took Soft tires. When he exited on Soft tire it was already close to the end os session but he menaged to overtook one AM and one Williams.
Everyone was doing long runs at that time.
I am interested to see long run charts now.
No magnussen was far in the straith and fernando made a couple of mistakes in turn 1 turn 3 turn 7 and turn 10 with bit of understeer i thin' the alpine is difficult to driveRedNEO wrote: ↑18 Mar 2022, 18:06Alonso P5 and despite k-mag holding him up at the third sector he was still under a second off P1. Without traffics he could have been P4 ahead of Russell but highly doubt they can hold Mercedes behind in the race even if that did happen in the Q.
My hope is they can be at least best of the rest to start the season and close the gap over the season.
Replacement sidepod to come tommorow for Ocon according to AMuS.
Well all cars are difficult to drive except Red Bull or Ferrari at this point but anyway Alonso still had a chunk of ERS left on his flyer.fouad1979 wrote: ↑18 Mar 2022, 18:22No magnussen was far in the straith and fernando made a couple of mistakes in turn 1 turn 3 turn 7 and turn 10 with bit of understeer i thin' the alpine is difficult to driveRedNEO wrote: ↑18 Mar 2022, 18:06Alonso P5 and despite k-mag holding him up at the third sector he was still under a second off P1. This was far than a perfect lap he did a correction in turn 1 and 3 and miss a bit the corner in turn 10 due to understeer and i think he has a lot fuel
The car looks like that on low fuel all weekend so far. But looks better heavy.
Yes its better on heavy fuel but they must erase the understeer like redbull did to go faster in quali otherwise it will be difficult to compete for the p6 saturdayGoranF1 wrote: ↑18 Mar 2022, 18:46The car looks like that on low fuel all weekend so far. But looks better heavy.
He also seem to come off the throttle early in the last corner when he saw the car ahead of him.RedNEO wrote: ↑18 Mar 2022, 18:34Well all cars are difficult to drive except Red Bull or Ferrari at this point but anyway Alonso still had a chunk of ERS left on his flyer.fouad1979 wrote: ↑18 Mar 2022, 18:22No magnussen was far in the straith and fernando made a couple of mistakes in turn 1 turn 3 turn 7 and turn 10 with bit of understeer i thin' the alpine is difficult to driveRedNEO wrote: ↑18 Mar 2022, 18:06Alonso P5 and despite k-mag holding him up at the third sector he was still under a second off P1.
