Mercedes AMG F1 W07

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

It's most likely to hold it together without the slats closing up at speed.

According to Sky's FP2 report Rosberg was running the new nose + wing when he crashed.

Hamilton also ran the new nose + wing in FP2 according to photos.

Is that an electronic cooling duct underneath?
Curious that they are covering up all the suspension and brake elements with a carbon cover...

Especially given the finish on it. Notice how smooth it is compared to the surface where the nose joints to the chassis? You normally only do such an effort for parts that come in contact with airflow.

My guess? It's part of the duct.

Based on what you are saying, I think the entire inner part of the nose will be part of the duct. I suspect there will be more intakes under the nose and the flow will squeeze into the two hole on the chassis.

Additionally, we can notice the shape of the cover slopes upwards to the holes, it acts like a big piece of flow conditioner.

That cover is there for easier nose change. It acts as a guide and it protects the suspension and brake elements from being hit with the pins on the nose cone, while trying tho change the nose as fast as possible.
