Mclaren Mercedes MP4-25

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

This car seems, to me, to be a mix of good bits from previous cars and some innovation.
When I saw the unveiling, the first thing I thought was "Walrus front wing supports" followed by "Red Bull front-wing" and "Red Bull Shark fin". Now I can see "Williams 'snow-plough'" too

I also think the rear of the car is a mix of innovation, Force India and Red Bull. If I had an image editor I'd show, I don't, so I'll try and explain. The Force India last year had a rather large bit 'chopped out of the sidepod, that really got my interest but no-one seemed to latch on to it. Also the Red Bulls heavily downward rake toward the suspension.

What I find rather interesting is the end-plates of this one and the main wing. Different design to last years almost completely, much more angular. What also caught my attention was the exhausts...very interesting indeed!

Something that seems to be becoming a trend is larger brake ducts to help cool the brakes with the heavier cars.
"It could be done manually. It would take quite a while, but it could be done. There is however a much more efficient and accurate way of getting the data. Men with lasers." Wing Commander Andy Green

I'm not an aero guy, just an armchair watcher of F1, but it looks to me that air would be rolled off the front splitter in a vortex underneath the car, increasing the airflow to the floor and diffuser. In effect a more advanced version of the snowplough implementation.

Anyone checked out the behind the scenes part yet? Just got an e-mail through from VMM about it. A few shots of the car with rear wheels off and low/rear end shots.

Not 100% sure if that'll work for all but hey, can at least try.

to me it is a mix reminding me as well of vintage Grandprix cars as well as a component of Mansells Mclaren Truck some years ago.

But i think this is another bold step of the mclaren guys ,not comparable to ferraris
approach.
the only thing worrying me a bit is the endless wheelbase...

It's slow as Luca B.

Like the walrus nose. Williams had that years ago and it wasn't too successful resulting in them firing their head aerodynamacist.

Seriously, that car is so radical, you almost start to think that they are going to dominate, they surely put everything for it to win both championships, wich they are surely able to, the car is refreshing, the tightest sidepods ever, now they are gonna show what they really can do.

Well the redbull is yet to be revealed.
I hope the Mp4 is really the most radical; i don't want 2009 to repeat [-o<

I hope they know exactly what they've done. It surely is an extreme development...it's going to be very very fast or may be worse than last year's. It is a combination of so many ideas from different teams. There in lies my fears....remember the last radical thing ...mp4-18. But it looks like a winner and I for one will be watching them with excitement on the grid.

It looks great, though I'm not that keen on the sharkfin. It's great to see a radical/innovative Mclaren as the last few cars have been a bit conservative.

I think it's one of those that'll either be really fast, or really slow, and unlikely to be anywhere between.

My main worries are the very long wheelbase and the reliability/cooling... especially with heavy braking/hot temps Bahrain first up.

It makes the Ferrari look a year old already!

The Williams looks very sleek/svelt if a little boriing.

Looks as if we're going to have to wait untill testing to see the diffusers though.

compare the quality of parts surface finish Ferrari and mclaren...if that is if anything reflective of the two outfits ,my money is firmly on Macs.
Of course we have not seen the Mercedes nor the Redbull from those two I think Brawn will make a viibly bigger step than Redbull I believe.. don´t forget Norberts guys did watch and see whta was going on at Mclaren ,sitting first row.
