I'm not an aero guy, just an armchair watcher of F1, but it looks to me that air would be rolled off the front splitter in a vortex underneath the car, increasing the airflow to the floor and diffuser. This pic seems to tell me the front undernose splitter thingy doesnt do much after the front suspension connection points
