Nice try from Hamilton at the end. Still not as fast as Verstappen.

Max without DRS in last sector. Hence such close times with Lewis.

This season has been Max vs Mercedes. Really he is putting that RBR where it does not belong.
It's plainly obvious that the Red Bull is the quicker car.

No driver can driver faster than the car can go. It's simply impossible. The best drivers get the most from the car available to them. That's always been the way since day one of motor racing.
Well, if Perez has been proven to only be able to extract less than 100% of the RB16B, why is it impossible for Hamilton/Bottas to be below 100% in the Merc?

Its all down to the extraction of potential. None of them are EVER truly at 100%!!
That is inconceivable in some people's universe.

I expect some people won't be running their mouths so much now!
LMAO as if that would ever happen. Good job by Hamilton, I look forward to a good race.
True. Thankfully it wasn't a routine Hamilton pole, as it has been for so many years and as it would have been if Red Bull, Honda and Verstappen didn't have the pace. Fortunately they do have the pace, and the Red Bull - Honda & Verstappen combo is simply lovely. :D

Much better a routine Verstappen pole than a routine Hamilton pole.
Didnt he improved 0,038s - the same gap that Lewis ended behind?
If i would get the money to start my own F1 team, i would revive Arrows

#-o which world you are in. RB is a at least a notch faster than merc. 6 poles in last 7 races.
No, Max is a bit faster than Lewis, but Merceds is a bit faster than RB.

Of course none of them get 100%. The best just get closer to it. And then there are those that can get close for a lap, others that can also do it for multiple laps. Max and Lewis are in that latter camp. They are just that bit better than most others.

Max ate them, without having DRS at the end of final straight on final run! Such a power projection...
Considering what happened so far in this season, no one deserve WDC more than him. Beast.

Lewis will start on older tyres because of Q2 being red flagged and on the less grippy side of the track, the race is now Max's to lose.

Uh. Hamilton and Bottas has been driving this line of car for five years now? :??

Anyway. Max could have went faster because he had a few squirrely moments on his first run. The speed traces also show he has a car advanatage at entry mid corner AND exit he does go a few km/hr faster. He actually chose to be conservative on his second run, but almost lost his pole to the ever improving Lewis.

Max does deserve pole though. He had the car and did what he needed to do to get the result. There is no shame in that. I think Lewis did the better last lap though. And would have been better if he had the practice.

That is probably the biggest issue with trying to compare the cars that are close. For all we know the Red Bulls pace could be closer to Perez and Max could be pulling it further. I still have very little idea where the Williams is comparatively because of the gulf between Russell and Latifi.

Why is session not going to be restarted?? There's 1.38 on the lock and out-lap can be only 1.15-1.20. This isn't spa in the wet with 2m30s outlaps. Seriously?
With slow driving on pit exit and slow traffic building space towards the last corner, I doubt more than 2 or 3 will be positioned to take advantage.
So the end of Q2 would effectively become a race for the pit lane exit. Dangerous and lottery at the same time. Common sense from the race directors to stop it, IMO.
