HRT F111 Cosworth

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Let's not forget where Geoff Willis worked not too long ago...
Favourite driver: Lando Norris
Favourite team: McLaren

Turned down the chance to meet Vettel at Silverstone in 2007. He was a test driver at the time and I didn't think it was worth queuing!! ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™‚๏ธ

This is what Geoff Willis mentioned in his plus article on Autosport:
- The Wind tunnel programme will start from June onwards.
- A technical office will be built near to the 2nd wind tunnel at Brackley.
- Hispania is a "different but rewarding" challenge.
- Started the 2011 car on the 15th December and normally would have taken 16 weeks, but completed in 13 (Australia Race).
- The F111 is 80% new.
- Quite relieved that Hispania didn't qualify in Australia as the personnel was working far too hard.
- Things the Dallara set up was completely wrong, with the design of the car with them and the operational side with Hispania
- The 2012 car will be brand new and should start developing that car as other teams do from this year.

That last one is good news- if they can make a car that is this close to the rest of the fiels in such a short space of time, then what will the 2012 car be like with a full development cycle? HRT really seems to have a properly sorted technical department now.

Anyone know approximately how many people they employ on the engineering side of things? I heard that this year's car was designed by 40 people. If that's true, then they must have some really clever people. Doesn't say much for Virgin though- they are infinitely better funded.

Hispania just put a full page ad in todays Autosport, with the following posistions avalable:

Aerodynamics Department
* Aero Team Leader/Senior Aerodynamisist
* Aerodynamics Engineer/Junior Aerodynamisist
* CFD Aerodynamisist
* Project Manager/Buyer
* Model Designers
* Model Makers

Design Group:
* Mechanichal Engineers
* Composites Design Engineers
* Head of Electronics

By my reckoning, i think they are looking to employ arround at minium 40-50 to bolster their team. This will more or less make their team swell from arround the 85-95 mark to arround the 145 mark at least. To think that will put them as the seecond smallest team on personell, if you exclude outsource and consultancy personell.

They will be arround 70 short of what Team Lotus and STR have, as they have arround 225 employees, but Virgin ir rumored to work with arround 120 employees from 2 diffrent main companies.

I saw the ad in Autosport today, Hispania have really got there act together haven't they? It seems the owner are being more serious now, or is this Dr. Kolles running things now, more efficiently?

ESP, do you know anything about an Hispania reserve driver this year, I thought Klien would have got the role.

Hispania are taking Mondini to each race, i belive. But he is there out his own pocket in effect and has to stay at a hotel and not go to the track at each race as he is in effect working on a consultancy basis from what i hear. Basically, if he goes to the track he gets paid, and hence why he hasnt been seen at a race.

If it had gone to Klien, i think there would have been a little barny with Liuzzi as both at Red Bull never saw eye to eye there.

Personally, i think they should have someone, and i think there should be a rule for this. However, id not be surprised if they have access to Vateleri Bottas from Williams as well, since they have their transmission.

Without a formal announcement, we are just guessing. Same goes for Mercedes as well as they dont have a TD, altho they are seemingly to use Di Resta and Sam Bird as their step ins if needed, as Force India can put Hulkenberg in Di Restas seat and Sam Bird is always arround if Di Resta cannot fill in for whatever reason. Also Mercedes also have their Simulator driver at most races as well, and thats Ant Davidson.

But no formal announcement means we dont actually know.

With the rumours of Williams possibly using Renault engines next year, what happens to Hispania and Williams partnership i.e gearboxes and associated tech?

Williams are a big enough company to be able to handle the load; they've been diversifying over recent years and third party technology supply is now a part of their revenue stream. I am sure that they have both the capacity and depth of experience to handle two parallel gearbox projects.

They seem to be confident that they can handle a supercar partnership with Jaguar and Formula Two chassis construction, so how much trouble can a second-string gearbox supply be for them? The current hispania box isn't exactly cutting edge.

Just design a new mating flange and redo certain dimensions on the housing I think.. Nothing more difficult.

Do you think they could use this year gearbox on the 2012 car? or maybe Hispania could be a team Renault are talking too?

Puyol is not going to be of any use, is he? There is simply nobody to defend against in an HRT!

..Maybe be the occasional Virgin, I would put Puyol to operate the rear wheel jack but I definitely wouldnโ€™t let Sergio Ramos anywhere near the tyres. Footballs number one team (Spain) together with Formula ones last/second last team!
