A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.
@segedunum - And yet there is a picture higher up on the page that shows a McLaren with a floating beam wing. But clearly they forgot all about that this year and are so stupid they designed something utterly inferior and with a lack of detail...
No, the F150 is the topic. So can we please get back to it?
Do you guys think Ferrari are going to have any issues with their exhausts with the "clarification" about Pyrosic they asked for? Their exhaust ducts feeding the gases to the rear of the car are made from carbon fiber on the outside, but surely CF cannot withstand that kind of heat during a full race. Maybe they asked for the clarification because the inside of those ducts was lined with Pyrosic... Or maybe it was just to mess with McLaren...
No way of knowing, but either way they would have come up with a solution that just uses prosic as a coating or the exhaust is fine the way it is and they were just confirming that their system wasnt at risk of being in breach of the rules. The reason I think they're ok is they haven't put out any press releases or news articles about their exhaust other than the one about the request for clarification.
Although I think the current exhaust system might be more legal than the one they had previously. This one, ostensibly, blows the exhaust directly over the diffuser. The system installed when filipe baby lit his F150 up was blowing through the starter hole (the flames where visibly flowing through the starter hole, there's a pic of it somewhere around page 20 of this thread).
Maybe, like mclaren, they have already back tracked to stay on the good side of the law, and keep their reliability.
dug this up from a few pages back. it looks as though this exhaust doesnt just go straight over the diffuser as i had thought but from this angle it looks like atleast part of it goes under the floor using the gap between the floor and the wheels.
will be interesting to see if the revise the exhaust again and they have a new system at australia after seeking clarification.
in comparison to the photo above and imightbewrong's post previous to this the metal (inconel?) now extends further out of the composite sheath than before.
just some forum fodder for the new exhaust.
also look at that piece sticking up on the gearbox/CS.
Scarbs, is it possible that the exhaust blows both below and above the floor via a 5cm cut-out/slit running the length of the exhaust exit? The trailing edge of the slit acting as the flow divider.
there is a little zig zag in the floor if you look near the tire in that shot. it almost looks like the harry potter scar from this angle. apologies for the corny reference but that's the first thing that came to mind.
