Brilliant strategy shifting him to a two stops instead of three..The tires did hold up..
And with no overtaking they seem to have won without the DDRS.

Here I am.
Right, a 1-2 would have been possible, but easily thrown away by the Team -.-

2 years for a win... Respect!

hope this wasnt a fluke
they were quick in China last year as well

won't get too excited, but it looks really good

wish it was a 1-2

seems they solved tyre problems for this race
They controlled the race basically

first time since 2010, chapeau bas

I think Michael's ruined race was a disappointment but Nico's win was an unexpected treat so it was a day of highs and lows.

Ross Brawn looked like someone had kicked his puppy when Michael retired.

All credit to Nico he drove a brilliant race and was fantastic in qualifying. He deserves the win. He did everything right.

A "job well done" to Nico & the team. Hope people start giving him and Merc some respect now.

Some early post-race observations: (1) Merc has made significant progress setup-wise in terms of reining in their tyre issues down to manageable levels, and (2) just as in qualy, the W03 runs very well (and is kinder on its tyres) in clean air.

The rest of the teams (and pretty much everyone else) must all be dumbstruck at what Merc just pulled off in Shanghai. Nearly everyone from P3-P11 must've been quietly dismissive about them as being completely immaterial in the race, expecting the W03 to quickly fall back into the clutches of the Caterhams.

Having said that, this doesn't necessarily automatically mean that Merc is now McLaren's strongest rival from the next race onwards. Shanghai and the weather may have just suited the W03's strengths very well. I can only hope that it continues and develops into a season-long trend.

Yes. But one more race and then Mugello testing. They can buckle down and solve the problems there (I hope). If they also manage to bring in a new and better exhaust solution and a few other minor upgrades Merc might look seriously good.

This is not indicative of a typical race.

Cooler temperatures at China has masked Mercedes wear issues, make no mistake. 23 Degree track temps are nothing compared to the 30 plus temps you will find at over 75% of venues.
I'm ecstatic Mercedes won, but I still think they will have problems at hotter venues.

I hope I'm wrong.

Completely agree with you. But they have time to solve the issue before Spain, right? Also in Sepang it was the opposite problem. They couldn't heat the tyres. So i'm tinking maybe they'll perform okay in hotter conditions as long as they can set up the car properly.
