Mercedes AMG F1 W06

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

You mean old nose.. The one without the bulge was used first IIRC.

This is from the pre-season, it always had a bulge/belly, until now.

The tip no longer has the little carbon bulb underneath, the tip also appears to have been re-profiled.

The cheapest sort of pride is national pride, every miserable fool who has nothing at all of which he can be proud adopts, as a last resource, pride in the nation to which he belongs; thus reimbursing himself for his own inferiority.

Scarbs saying itยดs the same nose and underside.
Looks different to me though.

It is definitely a different nose.

Also Mercedes had tightened the rear packaging around the exhaust and cooling exits:

Austrian GP:

It looks again like Mercedes have copied the solution Red Bull were using a few races ago.

If you mean tightening the bodywork they have at least three different engine covers with different degree of opening that they try as early as winter testing each year. Hot tracks use the ones with the bigger openings and cool tracks such as Austria will use the covers with the smaller openings.

The version used in Spain and a few other races was the tightest version, with the Monaco spec being more open, to offer additional cooling. The spec in Austria is a new development and is tighter than all previous versions. I believe it is a further refinement of Spanish spec.

The paint seems to extend a little further around the tip, which gives the illusion that the nose has changed.

Is it still a engine cover or is it already a beam wing?

It is a Lotus style nose. The previous iteration had a rounded bulge underneath, while the current version has a uniform horizontal section, more akin to an inverted ramp. I also think the new nose is ever so slightly wider.

Since Canada they have a new front brake fin, having an unique shape :

Image

And the story is here : http://www.formula1.com/content/fom-web ... t-fin.html

On Sky Ted Kravits said they have here a 3rd engine or PU spec ...
Isn't the same engine/PU from Canada?
Isn't about their 2nd engine/PU without tokens but with some updates which could be classified reliability upgrades?
So how come?
