Red Bull RB5

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Aye, it'll save from confusion. Nice finds though and thank you for posting them!
The teams really have moved on alot in 1.5 weeks.

Its the STR, you can tell by the tiny bit of body work you can see to the sides of the cooling holes, its the picture of the bull (see how the livery has wavy lines...horns or something) Also on the left of the image you can see the top of the sidepod and there are no lines on it, the RB5 has pin stripes in this place.

Looks like Newey has managed to keep all the strong points of the RB5 while integrating the DDD. =D>

Yeap.

The band-aid solution is pretty obvious really - instead of using a central tunnel - which competes with the gearbox for volume, use two tunnels split to either side of it.

Its not ideal, due to increased curvature and surface area within the duct relative to your exit area, but its all they can do in a short timescale.

Definitely a band-aid solution, not a fully optimized one. The rear end was not redesigned as much as Red Bull implied it was going to be. No surprise, since a major redesign on this scale takes several months.

I like venturis on the sides of diffuser. Simple, yet clever.

The feature seems to be there since the beginning, I guess as a function of their decision to run the narrower diffuser.

Is it on both sides? They're expliting the same loophole as BMW.Sauber who managed to squeeze some shark grills into that area.
