Anthony Davidson on the coverage says he believes RB could be about 5th fastest, at level of AMR-ish.

Don't see why not. They never show anything in testing and they are tapped into the feelings within the paddock. Sky pundits are RB fans? Haha!

I just watched the end of the 2022 testing, all of sky pundits put Redbull unanimously on top above Ferrari.
Which definitely turned out to be completely false, atleast for Bahrain.

So, take everything with a grain of salt :) Even paddock chatter is quite meaningless.

There is always a big bias based on previous season performance. So meaningful jumps/drops from teams which could disrupt the order, especially at the top, usually tends to get downplayed.

Red bull and merc supporters? Thats new.

Anyway.

Red Bull by a gap. Then Ferrari and McLaren. Then Merc and Aston. Toro Rosso to Alpine. Willie to saub to Haas

Well cmon...you know how it went after Bahrain...you do not test for a single race and if you do you screw the rest.

Also this is normal, isn't it? There is a big question mark on possible settings, fuel loads, setups, tires....and glory runs for whatever reason.
So the only sensible thing to do is to take last seasons performance as a benchmark. And from this point on you need a very good explanation why a team should jump in performance.

Taking this into account: I see that everything around McLaren is super quiet. Surprisingly quiet as they were the Nr2 at the end of last season over multiple tracks.
And I do not believe jet in the Ferrari jump. Maybe they again prepare a bit more towards Bahrain...but besides the move of Hamilton I see nothing convincing that they are close.

According to Piastri, it is currently not possible for any team to compete with Red Bull.

He doesn't know how the next group is lined up. The only thing he is sure of is that Red Bull is ahead.

This is the situation as of the last day

Rough guess-

Red Bull
+0.3-4s
Ferrari
+0.2s
Mercedes, Mclaren, Aston
+0.1-2s
RB and maybe Alpine
then everyone else...

my 2 cents: it is very likely that all of you are right and RB is going for 24 wins BUT I think that, at the present time, this prediction stays on two pillars: the RB20 "sci-fi"look and the first (half) day of testing when max put some laps impressing everyone (already "imprinted" by RB20 look).

Nevertheless if one ignores (very hard to do!) the previous 2 things and judges only based on the whole 3 days of testing I think that all your pecking orders should have FER in tier 1

W13 happened...

James Allison on F1 TV:
1. Red Bull
2. Mercedes and Ferrari
3. Aston Martin

He says Mercedes are slightly ahead of Ferrari on race pace and behind on one lap pace.

Is he actually following what's going on, or is he just parroting a gut feeling based almost entirely on last season's competitive picture?

I swear being an F1 reporter must be the easiest job in the world.
