1988 called and asked for it's run-breaking double DNF to be remembered. The only race that year not won by McLaren - Monza, won by Berger in the Ferrari. Now that would be an amazing (and very unlikely) coincidence if it happened this year too.

Ironically, what seems to be about as equally common in the last 4-5 years of races at Monza is having the fastest car and not winning. That happened to Merc in '19, '20, and '21.

So the question is which version of the curse will strike this year? The one where the winner last year doesn't win this year, or the one where the fastest car doesn't win? RB certainly have many curses going against them for this weekend...those of historical precedent...and potentially the fan initiatiated...

I wouldnt worry about the curse when you have Max in the RB19. He could start from the back and still comfortably win.

What was the other race this year that was apparently cursed?

If you win in Bahrain you finish 2nd in the championship apparently

Williams is going to make some folks miserable this weekend….Their low downforce package is quite good.

Does performance at Baku still have a correlation with Monza given the long straights? If so, then Ferrari could do well. Seems Williams still has the least drag, so would expect them to do well. I see the following order RB>FER>AM>MCL>WIL>MERC and then the rest who knows

That's a pretty wild take. I was thinking of an order like in Belgium: RB>FER>MERC>AM>MCL>...WIL...
Williams weren't good in Baku and Spa despie their low drag car. Second fastest in the race will still be at random as usual with a slight edge possibly going to Ferrari.

Not sure about the Willie, but I agree on RB > Fer. Ferrari has a low downforce package for Monza as usual, McLaren will not have a proper package. So overall:
RB > Fer > Merc > AM > ....

Might want to check your research.

I'm fully expecting RB>FER>MER>AM>MCL>WIL.
Maybe the last two swapped around.

Wouldn't surprise me if Albon is in the top 3 in qualifying to be honest.

Keep in mind:
This will be the first qualifying in quite a while when the track is rubbered in (no rain expected and junior race series) and the weather is warm.

This could change the order quite a bit.

Pirelli repeats experiment at Monza: this is what happens during qualifying

At the Italian Grand Prix next weekend, a qualifying format already tried in Hungary will be retested. For Monza, it will again impose which compound tyres from Pirelli can be used for each segment of qualifying. These are the rules for Saturday:

In a regular qualifying session, teams have the option to decide which compound from Pirelli they want to use in Q1, Q2 and Q3.

For Italy, it is prescribed that hard tyres are used in Q1, mediums are mandatory in Q2 and in Q3 the drivers drive softs. [ #-o]
By the way, should qualifying be wet, a free choice of tyres will apply.
