Dallara F3 2025 FIA Formula 3 2025-2030 all-new car discussion

Post

FIA Formula 3 Championship 2024 season will be final season for Dallara F3 2019 chassis car which has been required since 2019 season and from 2025 season onwards all new FIA Formula 3 Championship car will be used until 2030 and thus Dallara F3 2019 will expected to retire after this season (if no subject to change). Dallara will expected to remain in FIA Formula 3 Championship until 2030.

I expect the design of Dallara F3 2025 car will be majorly based on Formula 1 2022 aerodynamics generational.

Your opinions?

This Dallara Mecachrome F3/GP3 combo since 2016 has been very successful. Both cars have been fairly reliable, surprisingly fast and provided some entertaining battles.
I expect the new car will mostly be an evolution of the current one, with the latest safety updates and an aero generally looking closer to the current F1 aero as you say. It will also retain DRS.
But they will have to stay clear of too much complexity to keep costs reasonable.

If the new F2 car is anything to go by, I think this will be a mild evolution. Same powertrain, aerodynamic tweaks, and safety improvements. Specifically, I expect the odd-looking semicircular rear wing setup of the F2 car and "continuous" front wings with the mainplane blending into the endplate. The current car is pretty decent so I doubt there will be a big change.

Depressingly - I suspect it will be a fatter, less agile vehicle and as sterile as mild cheddar cheese.

Current F3 is already poor

Watched Indy NXT the other day...they were basic, but you could see they had a surfeit of power over grip

Let's see by Monza Round whether the Dallara F3 2025 car launched or not?

That doesn't seem very helpful to prepare for F1? :?:

Classic Formula 3 only had 200hp with the small air restrictor, they always had more grip than power, and this taught important techniques (momentum?) and this proved to be a very valuable category.

Even the most powerful non-shifter go-karts the juniors come up through also have more grip than power, no? If these drivers wanted to learn sprintcar racing with 900hp and no grip, they would come up through dirt sprintcars, no?

Current F3 suits current F1 OK, but who knows by 2026 what kind of skills will be best suited to F1. I think the Indy NXT cars look nicer than current F3 cars and based on the early 2026 F1 reports the cars may not be so planted. Indy NXT has ~450hp, so if they ran a similar chassis with the current ~380hp engine it might create a good balance while being slightly edgier than modern F3. Plus running a more basic car might be slightly more cost-effective. Personally that's what I'd like to see, so instead we'll get a car with weird elliptical aero surfaces and swept wings that look cool for the sake of it that will be more expensive ](*,)

But how about the engine? Will Dallara F3 2025 car goes to turbocharged or still remained with naturally-aspirated?

They most likely will stay at the same power level so I hope they stay NA and keep the current engine. It's a proper race engine, lightweight, laod bearing, with a nice sound to it. And it's reasonably reliable in N/A version after 8 years of use.
If they were to go turbo, they'd probably go down to a 4 cylinder to get the same power output and that would be a shame IMHO.
