ATS Racing Team
Based in: Bologna Founded: 1961 (active 1963-1964) Principal: Carlo Chiti & Romolo Tavoni |
Automobili Turismo e Sport was formed by ex- Ferrari personnel, led by Carlo Chiti and Romolo Tavoni, with the backing of Jaime Ortiz Patino, Giorgio Billi and Count Giovanni Volpi (who left early on to form Scuderia Serenissima).
The team based itself at Sasso Marconi, Bologna and effectively finished after the 1963 season, although it continued as an engineering concern.
ATS are perhaps best remembered as the outfit that effectively killed Phil Hill's career when the former champion quit Ferrari to help them out.
