The Theodore Racing Team was founded by the millionaire businessman Teddy Yip and based at Ralt's old works at Woking. Yip had previously backed drivers such as Tambay and Jones and decided to enter his own design.

A second attempt with the Shadow design didn't fair much better and neither did a final attempt with an amalgamation of the moribund Ensign team, after which this Macau based entrepreneur turned his attention to the IndyCar scene.
