General Honda F1 Topic

Post

This topic is made to adress Honda's position in F1 and as a solution to both the Honda PU topic and the Toro Rosso - Honda topic.

In this thread, you will be allowed to talk about Honda's future in F1 and its management related to the sport. What you will NOT be allowed to, is:

-Discussion about hardware: that goes into 3 other topics:
*The Toro Rosso car thread regarding impact on chassis, packaging and cooling.
*The Red Bull car thread regarding impact on chassis, packaging and cooling.
*The Honda PU topic regarding specific parts and issues of those parts, as well as discussion about possible solutions for
those parts. In short the hardware coming from Honda

-Discussion about the collaboration (none-hardware) with its current and past customers. The 2017 customer is McLaren, the current 2019 customers are Toro Rosso and Red Bull. Discussion about potential customers in the future is allowed here. However, if any supply deal becomes official, collaboration between the team and Honda will go into the team thread of that year.

-Discussion about other sports; it can only relate to F1.

Also, to be 100% clear: we will not allow insults or overly negativity, even if performance is abysmal. We expect that our members are capable of making reasonable posts and keep their emotions in check.

Thanks @ turbo f1
I'll post the news in their respective forums.

This is the most important thing, we can discuss or make comparisons before, during or after each GP. I suppose the Mods will allow publications on speed traps, drag, etc.
Either way, let's debate without offending.

Thanks, this topic was sorely needed. There's too much to talk about regarding Honda in the off-season, and the technical engine thread isn't the right place for it.

Hopefully all the Mclaren "Fanbois" will stay away so we can keep this thread positive and constructive....
So will the Honda fanbois with the pink glasses then also stay away and keep it constructive then?
And hopefully people can stop calling eachother fanbois and also purposely stop evading our filters?

Seriously, this thread was not made to put remarks on one another. This thread was needed to give a place to people to discuss the company side of Honda F1. Please leave these people in peace to discuss.

So we know Hasegawa has been pushed aside to make way for two new leaders: Honda F1 Technical Director of HRD in the UK and an Operating Officer over HRD in Sakura.

Toyoharu Tanabe is in the UK based on this official statement by Honda, but nothing about the OO in Sakura. Autosport said it was thought to be Yasuaki Asaki. He looks to be more of a project manager where Tanabe has race engineering experience.

Profile of Toyoharu TANABE:
1984: Joined Honda Motor Co., Ltd.
1990-1992: Engineer for G. Berger with McLaren Honda Team
1993-2003: Race Engineer, research into IndyCar engines
2003: Chief Engineer for J. Button with B.A.R. Honda Team
2004-2007: Chief Engineer for J. Button with B.A.R. Honda Team and Honda Race Test Manager
2006-2007: Chief Engineer for J. Button with Honda Racing F1 Team and Honda Race Test Manager
2008: F1 development project leader at Honda R&D Co., Ltd.
2009-2013: Mass-production engine development at Honda R&D Co., Ltd.
2013-2017: Senior Manager and Race Team Chief Engineer, Honda Performance Development, Inc.

All I can find on Asaki is that he was the Chief Engineer for the N-Box kei car line that Honda developed a few years ago. I'm a fan of the N-One:

Then I would suggest that the mods monitor and remove all negative posts....not just the ones that disparage Mclaren..........P.S. Calling me a Honda "Fanboi" is a compliment! 8)

Why don't they bring in some of the "Mugen Boys" to help out in Formula One? :wtf:

Honda will just use a super computer with engineer input and it'll design an engine. :)

This whole time they've just been feeding data into their AI, engine program.

Of course there are good words it's the start of a new partnership and that is what you do.
It's not like Honda all of a sudden has a new engine design that isn't a continuation of what they had in the McLAren this year.
But hopefully Honda will improve coming into the 2018 season.
Those good words seem to be about how well the spec 4 /2018 power unit fits into the torro rosso chassis and not about their relationship. It is safe to presume that the Honda engine has been running on the engine dyno and simulator at RBT since the Honda to Torro Rosso announcement and possibly even being backed to backed against the 2017 Renault.

I wish there was testing like the old days because not only would we have torro rosso running around with a honda engine already but Red Bull would most likely be testing the Honda engine as well with the expected break up at the end of 2018 with Renault. Honda would also have seen the issues with their 2017 engine much sooner and have been able to put into place solutions much sooner.

Put it this way, for the entirety of the 2018 season, RBR will have all the access in the world to Honda's progress and data, while also VERY likely giving Honda unprecedented access to their data from running the Renault.

People seem to forget that McLaren had Mercedes engines before Honda... if there was anything to be learned they already had access to information from the best engine in the field.

So you think nothing has changed? And they've learnt nothing from the past 3 years?. Apart from RBR's extensive data of the Renault V6 PU and the fact they'll be running it alongside Honda in current reg chassis', It's a little silly to assume they won't get a thing out of this.
