.
That is not true!
.
"Almost half of Zandvoort residents are promoters; the percentage of critics has grown to 19% this year.
(According to the Net Promoter Score, promoters are respondents who give a 9 or 10 as a total score;
respondents who give a 6 or lower as a final report grade are called critics [= 19 %] )
- The most important positive effects according to Zandvoort residents are that the event puts Zandvoort on the international map, strengthens the image of Zandvoort and the surrounding municipalities, attracts visitors to the village and the region, makes people happy, and generates income for local entrepreneurs."
This comes from a "Research report impact Dutch GP (186 pages), Breda University of Applied Sciences."
.
Introduction
For the third consecutive year, the municipality of Zandvoort and the organization of the Dutch Grand Prix (DGP)
have asked Breda University of Applied Sciences (BUas) to investigate the economic, social and societal impact of the Dutch Grand Prix 2023 event and its side events (under the name Zandvoort Racefestival).
This research report presents the results and explains how these results were achieved.

Very brave of the organisers to admit that they need to fill the place for all 3 days just to breakeven and admit there are too many risks to keep playing that game and quit while they are ahead. I'd like to think F1 would take that as a warning that they are making the fees for circuits unsustainable, but I doubt it will.

Assen was a better option.
Zandvoort only did it for the money and popularity of Max Verstappen

This is how pretty much all pro sports works around the world. And it isn't usually the owners. It is the players , drivers and their agents that vaccume up all the money.

Are you aware of how Liberty and the tracks divide money? The track pays a set fee for the race, $25 million or so, although I don't know what Zandvoort's fee is. Liberty take all the income from on track advertising. The track has to recover their cost from ticket sales only. Do the math and it's pretty much impossible for a track to cover the cost of the race unless there is support from some government entity. Zandvoort was trying to do this on their own, but it's just not possible so they have to give up. Too bad, this was a fun race on a real track; now we'll get another mid-east desert track. I so enjoy seeing a track with grass verges and elevation changes.....

Assen is a bike track, it’s in no way suitable for F1. Indycar raced at Assen in 2007 and couldn’t overtake, I don’t see how modern F1 cars would find it better.
