It could be the opposite, manufactured in light plastic by 3d print, mould made with that inside by initially spray surfacing, to then cast in something like magnesium alloy by pouring into the mould in displacement of the original structural plastic by melting.

OR metal fused "powder" in matrix construction.

Matt Somerfield stated that the drum "has been treated with heat resistant paint," so it's probably just carbon-fiber like the rest of them.

They would ordinarily need phenolic resin in high heat component like this application, to avoid heat problems. The coating, if true, suggest that the structure is vulnerable for some reason.

It is a heat resistant coating. Not a coating to make something heat resistant. Big difference.

To get the desired transfer of heat, engineers need to balance conductive, radiative and convective heat exchange. A reflective coating can be used to change the radiative heat exchange.

From an interest point of view and furthering discussion about the component here gives more oversight of a process that can be used.

One advantage in that original is relatively cheap to make a easy to complete finite finishing work on before it passes to casting. The casting stage can then arrive virtually finished as component with little work to complete installation.

The teams as I understand run a range of 3d printing capabilities in different materials and method to best fit the downstream output, whether that be final component or mould, for example.
