1984 Toleman Hart

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Odd question, but can someone tell me who the sponsor was that displayed a "+1" inside a red droplet?

Thanks

Random question, but I am looking at your username and wondering if the "drupa" in your name relates to the Drupal CMS and whether your question is indirectly related to the Drupal droplet logo?

I only ask because I used to work for a rival CMS development company ...

Better pic; in this one you can see that the +1 has a blue drop-shadow:

I didn't get anywhere closer to an answer unfortunately.

Tangentially I wonder if it is red in photographs and real-life but came up as a different colour, as the logo's owner intended, on broadcast TV; I am thinking of the contemporaneous orange-in-reality red-on-tv Marlboro McLaren livery.

Seems to be pretty illusive, quite strange actually.

Can't find the exact logo, but it is quite close to a lot of blood donation drive logos:

https://www.google.com/search?tbm=isch& ... ation+logo

Plenty of red drops, plenty with + symbols. Designers seem to like the + on drop motif because the drop represents the blood and the + recalls the red cross logo.

I can't find one with a +1, but there is no reason particular reason a 1984-vintage blood drive logo would have made it onto the internet. I can see a designer using +1 to try and say every time you donate is +1 living person. Or something…

I read toleman back then had only or mostly italien sponsorship and Giacomelli was famous for touring northern italy searching for sponsorship deals...

even though the drops are placed at rather prominent places it doesn't seem to be any of the main sponsors:

Isn't it Lucas Oil?

Just had that in my mind and googled it;

Take a look at those 2 1's that are on this printable sticker thingy, probably for a trophy truck, they have a similar font, as well as same coloring.

Was hoping Racingsportscars.com had something on it, but they dont have the TG183B(or TG184) in their database.

Agip had a brand called Formula Plus One, but I can't find a logo specific to it. It makes sense though, what with the logo being a droplet, and Agip supplying the team with most of the stuff that drips.

Also the red colour would appear brownish on TV broadcasts of the time. Except in my house where it was all black-and-white until about 1990.

This logo also appears on the 1983 Spirit 201C

And on the 1985 Arrows A8

Interestingly, +1 is listed as a sponsor for Spirit that year...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formula_On ... ies#Spirit

It's strange that such a visible sponsor on three different cars would be completely unknown. Perhaps that's a fitting commentary on the value of F1 sponsorships.

Found it! Clicking in the logo in the first URL takes you to the actual "piu1" page. No idea what SIMA consulting is doing there, but it is the one that sprang in google image search. Do I get to share the spoils of the bet, Drupa? ;-)
