404 errors in Formula One forum

Post

Pretty much as with the title. I'm getting 404 errors when I try and view most posts in the Formula One forum. I have also had the same problem trying to go to the most recent news pages.

Any details? Still happening? Since when? Anywhere where it doesn’t happen?

Re: 40x errors in Formula One forum

Post

Just experiencing this since a month.

Site at random extends the hyperlink with &sid=… this results in a 40x error.

For example starting at the main screen of F1 technical and clicking to “active topics”
or clicking on a forum thread.

It mostly happens at the start of browsing. And when it happens you cannot visit the forum part.

But manually cleaning the link one time will solve the problem for this session.

HW used. iPhone, MacBook. Both with Safari and Brave browser.

Wrong hyperlink:
https://www.f1technical.net/forum/searc ... 8dsffgbbjc

Correct hyperlink:
https://www.f1technical.net/forum/searc ... ive_topics

I see folks also mention this in another thread.

I am getting something similar with the 303 errors, on iphone, safari.
Didn’t safari have a peculiar approach to cookies?
I get the same reset everytime I open the site: 303 from the active topics link or from “forum”, no way in, but find an old notification or some other non standard forum link, and it works that one time, and then I can use the same links that I could not use before… until I close Safari for a while, then 303 again.

It is like the forum doesn’t trust you to get in, but once you are in, it recognizes you and everything works again.

I hear about other forums having similar issues, BTW, I’ll contact Steven to adjust the level of filtering going on.

Edit: exact same behaviour on PC with Firefox, so it is not a Safari issue.
Enter the site, click in the usual forum lings, and the gorilla at the door is like, nahhh, who are you, 303 for you.
Find a side door (an old PM perhaps), all or the forum works seamlessly from then on.

I realised I'm only getting these when I use old old cookie (or whatever the term is). It went away when I typed the whole website address out

Steven said he's disabled the 503's at the minute to monitor what's going on.

Shouldn't get any more 503's at the minute but I did mention the 'work-around' in the Site slow loading thread. Accept cookies, login to browse, make sure the &sid=??? string isn't on the URL bar.

There's a chat about it in the #general section of the sites discord channel if your having issues accessing the site and need to contact someone.

I had the 404 error for a week with the forum only. All the news articles were fine and accessible.

I didn't change anything and it all came back to normal this morning (Brisbane time).

Using OnePlus 12, latest Firefox browser.

@MODS - we already have a relevant thread for this, can this one be merged into it?

Its called Site Slow Loading I think.

No harm in having both. Hopefully both can become obsolete soon.

The main problem seems to be is that my bookmark goes directly to search unread. If I delete the extra bit and just hook into the forum itself, it seems to work. And search works.

I posted the exact same thing in the other thread recently, I'm not sure why it does that.

I just cleared my cookies for the site to see if that does the trick...and it didn't!

I'm getting this regularly when first going from the homepage to the forum, but usually if I close the tab, and try again, it works fine with no slowdown or anything.

PC/Chrome.

Much better than the extreme slowdown of before.
