I sure would like to see some CFD on one of those slots. I can see it reducing drag a bit I wonder what it does for DF?

probably keeps air attached or something like that.

For the mclaren slot it might make the wing less sensitive, but i think that is irrelevant for the regular slots

Singapore updates - experimental front wing and diffuser

McLaren tested new wing with totally new end-plate in Singapore but did not use it in qualification or in race. (They tested this piece already in Valencia and at Spa I guess).

Image

McLaren also used a new symmetrical rear diffuser, replacing the previous asymmetrical design introduced at the Nurburgring.

Image

They had also new floor. McLaren changed Hamilton's monocoque due to KERS cable problem. It was easier to change the monocoque than to repair it. So it was not because of performance reasons or new parts.

REAR WING - ITALY

The size of the flaps is dramatically reduced but the overall wing’s style remained similar to Spa concept . The main profile was also raised in its central section , the three horizontal slits also remained but the gurney tab was removed . A low downforce spec rear wing is vital for achieving top speed at long Monza’s straights .

The nose cone camera winglets were repositioned higher to the nose cone , just above and frontier the upper suspension wishbone linkage .

bar555, I just want to say thanks again. The best threads on cars are all yours. I bet half the visitors come because of these threads, beautifully illustrated and straight to the point. I dare to think that if some team wants a truly good spotter, they should consider hiring you.

Can someone xplain the loophole in the rules that allows for the return of such deflectors and barge-boards? Scarbs?

AFAIK the boxes within which overlapping surfaces are prohibited are defined relative to car surfaces. teams have got around this by shifting bits of the car (sidepods backwards for example) to creat unregulated space in which they can add dangly bits.

Anyone confirm?

shifting the sidepods backwards is wrong i believe, the position of these are regulated becauce of driver protection. i believe these parts have to do with vieuws from certain positions and the body work at the sidepods length has to do something with the sidepods width i guess.
