Re: 2022 Scuderia Ferrari F1 Team

I read an article on an Italian site that said it's time to define the hierarchy and I'm inclined to agree. We're at the point of the season where the decision needs to be made. We can't afford to give Sainz all season to adapt to the car, luckily Charles always finishes ahead of him anyway, but sooner or later Sainz will finish ahead of Leclerc and take points from him.

I think round 7 or so is the right time to elect the number 1, any later is too late.

Tyre deg looks much better since yesterday, at least on the softs. Good stuff

Good quali session. Both cars on the racing line so hopefully they can head off VER and get out of T1 in a 1-2 position.

Monster lap from Leclerc. Sainz should have locked out the front row but in hindsight P3 is better. Let's hope the tyres stay with them.

After Spain last season I worry about Verstappen on the front row. I think it might be better for him to just get Charles off the launch before turn 1 rather than Charles getting a better start and being at risk of a big lunge.

Max doesn't fight this year the same way because he knows you can pass more easily on track. Doubt he goes for an insane lunge

It's tougher to overtake at Spain, but I see your point, I hope you're right though I think Verstappen's instincts will urge him to send it.

It was interesting to hear Gene Haas mention extra power from the Ferrari PU. Just because of a new unit (and in which case does that mean a drop off in the prior unit)? Or do we think they’ve changed something in ERS (beyond K update in Miami) and/or mapping?

Red Bull it seems lacking in S3 that could be beneficial for Ferrari

RB were good through the chicane specifically which could help them get close

Yeah, no way Verstappen can resist the urge to send it. Seeing how he licked the stamp several times in Bahrain during the race there no way he'll not take the opportunity at the start.

The ICE taken in Miami had a reliability update, maybe they upped the modes this weekend, that would explain Haas and Bottas exceptional performance. Do you have a source for those quotes? As far as I know no ERS update yet.

I was just watching Gene Haas interviewed on F1 tv so don’t have a written source. But I can confirm he said it 🙂

Confirmation that Ferrari added front downforce and changed balance in the simulator to avoid cooking the rears.
https://www.formu1a.uno/fp3-ferrari-rit ... -outsider/
Ferrari anticipated its fast runs compared to rivals, partly because in the plans there was to run a long run to get answers about the work done during the night precisely to improve this factor. The feedback was positive both from the driver's feeling, expressed via team radio, and then with the times set on the track. Entrami started with the foot of 1.25.1 and then gradually began to raise their times towards an average of 1.25 high, with the specific request from the race wall to study the Tyre Management phase and perform the Lift & Cost. However, the degradation seemed to be under control, as indicated by the Spaniard's stint, which was more regular and managed to wear the tire less than yesterday in FP2. Towards the end of the session then, after a cooldown lap requested by Xavier Marcos, Leclerc returned to pushing by immediately getting back on the foot of the low 1.25, thus confirming the progress made on the setup front.

The simulation took place with ~20kg more gasoline than is normally used in FP3 to better verify the tire management and setup changes made overnight.

On yesterday's day, the biggest problem-as we had been able to tell you-was higher-than-expected thermal wear caused by wheel slippage. Thanks also to the work done in the simulator, in Maranello, Ferrari changed the balance of the car by going for rear protection and then slightly increasing the load on the front axle.
