I'm not convinced that having the return supply at an angle is any better or worse than horizontal. In both cases the wind has to turn a corner.

It certainly was not cheaper to prop that huge tube in the air, as opposed to lying it on the ground.

Willem Toet was in Ferrari IIRC from 1995 - 1999, the wind tunnel was built in 1997, so that sounds right.

I don't disagree. Massa was ill-suited for the 2012 campaign. Yes he picked it up the last two races, but it just feels too little, too late now.The question is, who would they field had they opted to dump Massa?

I was secretly hoping for Fisichella to replace Massa.
Massa needs to be kicked out of Ferrari, asap. He just isn't performing how he should be, and to be honest his last 2 results weren't spectacular in my opinion, they were plain 'descent'. Good enough for a new contract? With a team like Ferrari? Not in a MILLION years.

It's just one of so many thing that makes Ferrari one hell of a stupid team these days. If they had any brains, they would have opted to take in a GOOD driver a la Hulkenberg, di Resta, Alguersuari, Perez, Bianchi. But the only thing they think about is what Alonso wants. And as long as they stand by that filosophy, they'll never win a WCC and will only win a WDC when they deliver a perfect car, all season long.

+1 If I could +1 you mate...2014 is the "supposed" big changes...we have yet to give up on Robert Kubica, we have quite a line up in the young driver academy, Paul Di Resta (if he only manages to get a one year extension) The incredible hulk and so on.
If someone said to me that you can have three wishes, my first would have been to get into racing, my second to be in Formula 1, my third to drive for Ferrari.

I always thought, given the context that the Hulk was initially rumored for the Ferrari drive before he took a detour to Sauber, that that's the placeholder team for Hulkenberg - ie, in case whatever big plan they have for 2014 falls through, Hulkenberg will be Plan B.

Kubica I'm not so sure. I so hope he will return to F1. But I'm not sure. Perhaps a Pirelli testing role through 2013 will help his reintroduction to F1 - they'll be losing one of their test drivers if the rumors are to be believed (Jaime Alguersuari)

So it sounds like Luca is the one who laid the egg which became the Ferrari wind tunnel disaster. Is it more the 45 degree angle or the exposure of the tunnel that's the greater problem...or is it their combination which makes it give incorrect data?
Watching F1 since 1986.

But I don't understand, was it a disaster??
Coz from 1997 onwards when I first watched f1 ferrari always won!
So this wind tunnel was on par isn't it?

In those days testing outside race weekends was free...so anything we say will be an assumption, but probably the wt was 'good enough' for a period of about..its first decade of life...now it needs to be upgraded

I actually don't think that this 45 degree raised return supply tunnel is actually the problem... ok maybe gravity might play some tricks, but... I don't know. I'm no wind tunnel engineer.

ferrari wt iirc was born as a 50% scale facility. They upgraded to 60% in 2008 , I think; still probably their test section is a bit too small, so they experience a higher blockage. If they make a bigger test section, in order to reach the same speed they would need more power in the tunnel fan also (50% more power maybe).
judging from picuters seen lately on ferrari.com via @jose luis on twitter, ferrari are also still using a sting support for the model (boomerang shaped), whih also adds to blockage. Maybe they would want to upgrade their model suspension system to something different, for example no sting, balance placed under the rolling road, active suspension in the model itself. All in all, something reproducing the windshear facility retention system, but at the allowed scale of 60%.
then finally they would want to add some piv capability to the tunnel

Wouldn't all suspension tools have some turbulence though shelly? I can't imagine a way to do it without introducing SOME turbulence somewhere. At least it would interfere with the numbers
