The problem today was balance, not weight difference. If by saving on weight they can fix the balance then sure, otherwise I'm not exactly sure how you can claim that... Mercs had at least similar race pace to RBR today and they are also heavy and badly setup to help their porpoising, and were blistering tyres too.
If it's balance, then that kinda is a good thing? Hopefully they can fix that and then if they loose weight on top of that, the performance should be better, hopefully
They spent the whole weekend trying to fix it, they had balance problems since FP1, spent 20 minutes of FP2 in box to try something different. Completely changed setup for FP3, and then changed again between Q2 and Q3. They've been having understeer since the start of the season but so far every track was kinda rear limited or benefiting low downforce.
Don't get me wrong, getting rid of 7-10kg is going to help for sure, but the downforce at the front is probably their real head scratcher together with reliability.
