Was there any change to PU mode on day 3? I don’t think anyone including Ferrari showed 100%.

Looks like Ferrari decided to do a full simulation without sandbags, I can only speculate the reason was to trully check the degradation and race pace capabilities under full load. They revealed what they can do and no other Top 5 team appeared to do so in testing.

It's good to see they are far better than they were a year ago. Roughly, start of the stint is 1s better and near the end of it laps are 2s better compared to R sims a year ago. On average 1.3-1.5s better pace than 23 testing, which was pretty much what the pace was in the race as well. Very good job by the team and we should draw the line at that. First race is only 8 days away and everything will be clear.
Hurts to know that Ferrari was capable of making 1.5 second gains over a year to be honest. The messed up development of the SF-23 cost us real chances of fighting for 3 titles potentially(can someone compare Bahrain 22 vs Bahrain 23 for Red Bull?)

All that being said, extremely proud of the team for producing such a solid racecar. For all the talk a week or so ago about how Ferrari seemingly had the most basic car, their most basic car is at least as strong as the second forces. Development from here could hopefully make things exciting!

Yes everyone was running at high 290s kph in their long runs barring Max on day 3. Leclerc in particular had very high Speextrap numbers on his long runs. In earlier days it was low 290s on race runs even for ferrari. Engines for sure got turned up in the evening

22->23 there were major floor edge and diffuser changes which nerfed downforce generation, so that had quite an effect on laptimes.

Additionally, teams had a lot of carryover from 22 into 23 which is another reason why there's such a large gain this winter. New clean slate like '22

Not trusting a single word out of the commentators! :D :D
Allison claims Mercedes are slightly ahead of Ferrari in regards to race pace but behind on 1 lap pace
Russell race pace looked solid. Though it's very difficult to judge.
Russell didn't do a race sim so it's pretty hard to judge indeed.

Very slow compared to LEC or SAI so not solid.

LEC (day3) v SAI (day2) race sim. Looks good to me, SAI was already a huge improvement over 2023. And LEC is a further 1s per lap better in the second stint and has better deg in stint 1. LEC's deg in stint 1 is in line with Max's in the race last year.

Image

This is Max's 2023 race stint 1 (when he was still pushing at least a bit) against LEC stint 1 today, same tire as the C3 is the soft in the race. That's a 0.4s per lap improvement, minor one slower lap in the middle and it would be closer to 0.5s per lap vs RB19. So very respectable.

Stint 2 may have pushed a little too hard leading to deg being a little high, but it’s far far better than last year.

All of this is of course relative to one particular circuit. The variables of different circuits will play to the strengths and weaknesses of different cars and teams, and if I’m not mistaken deg in Bahrain is one of if not the worst??

Didn't Aston do a full race sim with Alonso?

Also Merc seems to hit the floor too much compared to other teams. I wonder if they will be able to keep it up and still be compliant with the plank wear.

This aligns with what Marko said from the beginning:
Ferrari engineers estimate a difference compared to Red Bull of around three tenths. Considering only Max Verstappen's RB20, while Sergio Perez, could be attacked by Ferrari.

As I said every report has different information, which means that the situation (minus the fact that RB is the quickest car) is not clear, especially the real gaps.

I'm cautiously optimistic, it looks like Ferrari did a good job with this car, and should be on the sharp end of the chasing pack.

Unfortunately it seems like Red Bull also did a great job improving their massively succesful RB19.
